Robert Rodriguez’s Upcoming Superhero Netflix Film Casts Christian Slater, Pedro Pascal and More

Robert Rodriguez is developing a new superhero project for Netflix called We Can Be Heroes and he’s starting to fill up it’s ensemble with actors such as Christian Slater (Mr. Robot), YaYa Gosselin (FBI Most Wanted, The Purge), Akira Akbar (Captain Marvel, This Is Us) and Pedro Pascal.

The story follows “the children of Earth’s superheroes after their parents have been kidnapped by alien invaders. The children must team up and learn to work together if they want to save their parents and the world.”

Yeah, that seems like the kind of film project that Robert Rodriguez would want to make. It’s not the first time he’s dabbled in action films that center around kids like the Spy Kids franchise and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. He most recently helmed that badass feature film adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel.

Oscars 2020: Best Visual Effects Predictions
This season’s VFX Oscar race features bold, innovative animation, led by Jon Favreau’s “The Lion King,” the all-cg photoreal breakthrough by Mpc Film, Ang Lee’s “Gemini Man” (October 11), which boasts Weta Digital’s most fully convincing digital human with Junior, the younger clone of Will Smith’s aging assassin, and Ilm’s digital de-aging experiment with Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci in Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated gangster epic, “The Irishman.”

Additionally, Weta took facial capture to the next level with “Alita: Battle Angel,” the manga-inspired sci-fi adventure directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau, while Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, “Cats” (December 20), delivers digital fur for its cast of felines, which has a built-in creep factor to overcome, based on negative reaction to the first trailer.

But “The Lion King” blockbuster’s tactile photo-realism

Robert Rodriguez Teaming With Netflix & Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas For New Superhero Film

Sure, maybe all the hype surrounding “Alita: Battle Angel” didn’t lead to massive box office returns and a new franchise quite like Robert Rodriguez hoped it would. But that isn’t stopping the director from continuing to work on new properties. So, how better to move on from ‘Alita’ than a kid-friendly superhero film for Netflix?

According to Deadline, Rodriguez is set to write, produce, and direct a new kid-friendly superhero team-up film titled “We Can Be Heroes.” The film, which clearly is going to skew more towards the director’s “Spy Kids” creative sensibilities, follows a group of children that must team up to save the world after their superhero parents are taken hostage by alien invaders.

How Previsualization Helps Create Pitches for Projects Like ‘Alita: Battle Angel’

How Previsualization Helps Create Pitches for Projects Like ‘Alita: Battle Angel’
Filmmakers are increasingly using previsualization, a now-standard technique for planning highly technical shots and sequences, as a tool for pitching a project to production companies, investors and studio executives — before a single full scene has actually been shot.

More creatives are relying on the technique, dubbed “pitchvis,” to fashion a compelling and engaging presentation to get a studio to greenlight a project, such as the recent James Cameron-produced anime adaptation “Alita: Battle Angel.”

“This was a new IP for film, different from properties the filmmakers had previously done,” says Austin Bonang, senior visualization supervisor at previs provider The Third Floor. “They wanted to demonstrate how a highly stylized IP could go more into real-world visuals, including CG characters in digital worlds like ‘Avatar,’ with ‘Avatar’-like techniques, but different and unique.”

Cameron, director Robert Rodriguez and producer John Landau brought in other key members of the creative team to

  • Deadline
Exclusive: Priyanka Chopra Jonas will star in Netflix kid superhero feature We Can Be Heroes, a new IP which is being written, directed and produced by Alita: Battle Angel and Spy Kids director Robert Rodriguez.

The under-the-radar project will see alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes, meaning a group of children have to team up to save their parents and the world.

Little else is being revealed about the project at this stage but it’s fair to say it’s skewing more towards Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel and the lucrative Spy Kids franchise rather than his darker Sin City. It is currently in production.

Quantico actress Chopra Jonas will next star in and co-produce The Sky Is Pink, based on the motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary, which will premiere at Toronto next month. She will also produce and star in an untitled wedding comedy set in India, co-produced by

‘The Art of Racing in the Rain’ Set to Become Another Flop in Fox’s Rough Box Office Year

  • The Wrap
Despite driving the lion’s share of overall 2019 box office revenue, Disney saw a big stock drop and faced questions over what it’s going to do with its newest acquisition, 20th Century Fox, after it reported a $170 million loss in its latest earnings call.

And as the assimilated studio’s “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” prepares to enter theaters, the film’s box office outlook shows that Fox will continue to remain in the red for Disney at least for the next few months.

With lukewarm reviews and poor audience tracking, “The Art of Racing in the Rain” is projected for an opening of less than $10 million this weekend, making it the third out of six films released by Fox this year to open below that mark. And overall, Fox’s 2019 domestic gross to date — $259 million — is down 65% compared to this point in 2018.

How Marvel Stars Reacted To Mahershala Ali’s Casting As Blade

“When Mahershala calls, you answer.”

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige there, recalling how the casting of two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as Blade came about – just in time for San Diego Comic-Con, no less.

Ali, star of Luke Cage, Green Book, and Alita: Battle Angel, essentially called up Feige and asked for a status report on Blade, and how he may fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fast forward to Sdcc 2019, and Mahershala Ali was on stage being introduced as the new-fangled daywalker, sending the Internet into a giddy state of pandemonium.

Turns out that excitement wasn’t limited to Marvel’s fanbase; all across the McU, everyone from Chris Pratt to Scarlett Johansson celebrated the casting of Mahershala Ali as Blade.

It was undoubtedly one of the coolest moments of Sdcc 2019, especially when Hall H fell into darkness as Ali unveiled the by-now iconic Blade baseball cap.

Will ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’ Catch the Box Office Crown From ‘Hobbs and Shaw’?

  • The Wrap
Will ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’ Catch the Box Office Crown From ‘Hobbs and Shaw’?
Hollywood studios will release a flurry of mid-budget films from all across the genre spectrum over the next several weeks. But don’t expect any more big opening weekends until “It Chapter Two” next month, as the remainder of August will likely see openings well under $30 million.

With that in mind, “Hobbs & Shaw” would seem likely to coast to another No. 1 finish. But some of the newcomers have a chance to steal the top spot should the “Fast & Furious” spinoff have a larger-than-expected second-weekend drop. Monday grosses were not a good sign at $5.8 million, a 63% drop from the film’s $15.8 million Sunday gross.

Analysts who spoke with TheWrap pointed to Paramount’s “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” as the film with the best chance of a possible No. 1 opening. Directed by James Bobin and produced by Paramount Players and Nickelodeon Movies, the film is a slightly more

Honest Trailer For Alita: Battle Angel, Which Plays Out Like it Never Left The 90s

James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel is the subject of Screen Junkies’ latest Honest Trailer, and as always, they have some fun poking fun at certain aspects of the film that deserve being made fun of.

While I loved the movie and thought it was an awesome adaptation, there are certain silly aspects of it that you can’t ignore and this video highlights those things. I like how it points out that the movie is set in the 2500s, made with the best technology from the 2010s, then still plays out like it never left the 90s, “Where everyone is really into X-Games.”

People can make fun of this film all they want, there is certainly stuff to laugh at in it, but I really hope that we get to see a sequel get made!

After getting into a car accident and nearly dying, Alma finds she has a new relationship to time. She develops this new ability in order to find out the truth about her father’s death.”
