As interesting as a bunch of logs floating down a river
29 October 2009 | by JoeytheBritSee all my reviews

I wonder whether Bitzer would have developed a style of his own had he not hooked up with D. W. Griffith. Judging from this long (for the time) study of the river transportation of felled timber from the forest to the wood mill I doubt it somehow. There are about eight different shots, all of them static and all of them four times longer than they should be. Any interest in the subject is quickly dulled by Bitzer's lack of imagination and you can picture him standing behind that camera, cranking its handle the way a factory worker operates a piece of machinery. We see the logs floating down a river, tumbling down some rapids, etc. We also see some guys log walking and, for a little light relief one of them lies down on his log.
