Trivia

This anime's storyline originally started off based on the manga. However, due to the FMA chapters being released more slowly in Japan (unlike most other manga series), the last half focused on an original plotline to help finish the storyline; along with the later release of Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa (2005). The later release of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009) would officially reboot the story in order to completely follow the original manga storyline See more »

Quotes

Alphonse Elric: Brother, it turns out the Philosopher's Stone may very well be real. But all the clues we need to finding it are off limits to everyone except State Alchemists. Since I no longer have a mortal shell, I can't feel the terror you felt, thinking you were going to die. It must have been very painful and lonely. I want my body back Brother. I want to be able to feel what you felt, to feel human again. If we find the Philosopher's Stone, I can have that.
Edward Elric: When I was certain he was going to kill me, my...

Crazy Credits

In the end credits of the first episodes, you see a close-up of Ed who "turns to the camera" and casts a faint smile. In the 7th episode though - a tragic one, Ed's smile breaks into a big grin while his eyes are shining like he's about to cry. See more »

This anime is about two gifted brothers who are intelligent, kind and ambitious. They live in a world where Alchemy, and subsequently Alchemist, is the law of the world (vs. science in ours). With alchemy, one can do wonders... repair broken items....change physical properties of a matter...etc. However, alchemy is bound to one rule....one cant take (or make) a thing without giving something in return. With this simple rule, the two brothers go in a maze of exciting adventures, meeting wonderful characters and even sometimes, respectable enemies. The anime is 51 episodes long, which might seem a little too long initially, yet fortunately...each and every episode will tie you to your seat and make you crave for more. Story line is good, a mix of brotherhood, friendship, love, humanity and (like any other anime) the effect of war on people, not to forget the hilarious moments this anime is mined with. Character development is excellent. Drawing is top notch and music is entertaining. Unfortunately, this anime is not concluded after 51 episodes. The movie, and hopefully the conclusion, is to be release 23rd July 2005. This anime is worth every second....a must see.
