Quotes

Sammy Davis Jr.: It is true that I'm an American Negro who - I have adopted Judaism as a faith. Everybody knows that and all the comics make jokes and I do it in self-defense. I would also like to let you know something that you're probably not aware of. My mother is a Puerto Rican. My mother's maiden name was Alvira Sanchez. This is true. And that means I'm colored, Jewish, and Puerto Rican. When I move into a neighborhood, I wipe it out!

Good looking classic concert
20 February 2007 | by imdb-14721See all my reviews

Great DVD transfer of a b/w kinescope of a fabulous concert. Very clean restoration of the audio. The benefit show was fed live to closed circuit viewings, probably projected in "selected theatres" in major markets. Classic swing arrangements of Frank's hits. Sammy commands the stage and everybody cuts up and cracks each other up. A rare chance to see these musical icons performing and cavorting in a mostly complete concert. This presentation is edited down from a longer version of the complete night which also featured Count Basie and other performers. The unedited version can be seen at the Museum of Television and Radio in New York & LA. Nonetheless, there is still 90 full minutes of performances on the DVD. Unfortunately, there are no additional features or other info about how this event came to happen.
