Storyline

Two years ago, five high-school boys brought fame to a small town in Japan. What was so unique was that they formed a "men's synchronized swimming club." Their involvement and struggles while learning synchronized swimming - known to be a sport for girls - brought much attention to their school and town. Two years have passed since that summer, and the boys of Tadano High School are still in the club. The Fuji Television drama "Water Boys" shows how these young boys fight to learn synchronized swimming, fall in love, and enjoy friendship with one another. An Enjoyable 'Feel Good' Film
11 March 2007 | by Snapdragon-6See all my reviews

This film is cute. The acting seems a bit amateurish but this minor flaw does not interfere with the audience's enjoyment of the film. Some of the scenes seem a bit implausible but not in a way that seems particularly irritating. People who enjoyed classic feel good comedies like 'Back to the Future' will probably enjoy this film as long as they don't mind reading subtitles. By the way, this film is (of course) more enjoyable to people with some knowledge of Japanese but since the comedy is NOT based on linguistic puns, it actually translates surprisingly well. After watching this film, you may be surprised at how similar Japanese humor is to the American variety.
