Storyline

Three weeks before general elections, the leader of one of the country's largest parties, the Center Party, is involved in a severe car accident. The political scene is thrown into disarray. At the same time, young, ambitious journalist, Ulrik Torp, is given the opportunity of a life time and made Dagbladet's correspondent in Parliament. Before long, Ulrik gets caught up in a ruthless struggle for power headed by the party's two successors to the leadership, chairman Erik Dreier and spokesman Lone Kjeldsen. Ulrik barely geets to dip his toes in the water, before all hell breaks loose. Speculation in the press and calculated lies fuel the controversy at great personal cost to many of the people involved. Ulrik slowly uncovers a cynical plot that involves the country's incumbent Prime Minister. He becomes obsessed with learning the truth. But no one will listen to him, be it politicians or colleagues in the press corps, and as election day draws near, Ulrik has to face the power elite ... Written by Anonymous

Quotes

Henrik Moll: Educated citizens are being ridiculed and it's okay to question standard human rights. What does that remind you of? The Soviet Union or Nazi Germany? And the journalists don't question a god damn thing, cause' they're scared shitless of being frozen out.
Ulrik Torp: Holy shit, Moll. You are paranoid.
Henrik Moll: The journalists and politicians work in the same building. That's like having a referee who's eating breakfast with the Brazilian soccer team, the night before the world finals.
Ulrik Torp: So what do you suggest that we...

Clever political thriller
3 September 2006 | by andy-887See all my reviews

A very clever and insightful thriller, this decade's All The President's Men, though without Robert Redford. Brings new angles on the government conspiracy theme. No doubt will be remade as a big Hollywood Studio thriller but unlikely to improve on this thought provoking original. The writer was himself a former top government Spin Doctor. Since the film was released real life events have made the curious leap of imitating fiction in the USA and UK with high profile political scandals, suicides and leaked information. Part of a string of strong political thrillers in recent years including Syriana with George Clooney. Maybe he will be in the remake.
