Film Stars Don’T Die In Liverpool – Review

Annette Benning as Gloria Grahame and Jamie Bell as Peter Turner, in Film Stars Don’T Die In Liverpool. Courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics ©

Film Stars Don’T Die In Liverpool is based on Peter Turner’s memoir of the same name, about his relationship with 40s Hollywood star Gloria Grahame. If one is expecting a biopic on the Oscar-winning Grahame’s career, you won’t find it here. Instead, this is about love and friendship that grew out of a chance meeting and unlikely love affair between an older woman and younger man. Although the affair didn’t last, the fondness did.

Aspiring young actor Peter Turner (Jamie Bell) did not even know who Gloria Grahame was when he met her at a British boarding house the catered to actors. Grahame was appearing in a local theater and although middle-aged, still beautiful. When she asked the young actor to help her practice her dancing,

David Tennant Signs On For Dean Devlin’s Bad Samaritan

As a writer and producer, Dean Devlin has had a hand in some of the highest profile projects of the last quarter of a century. Universal Soldier, Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla – all have been revisited repeatedly by Devlin and others, in numerous media. This is why – even though he is not the most prolific filmmaker – when he sets up a new property, people pay attention. We pay even more attention, when he casts an actor like David Tennant (Doctor Who, Jessica Jones), in a thriller like Bad Samaritan.

The script comes from Brandon Boyce, who previously wrote effective dramas Apt Pupil and Wicker Park. It centres on two young men working as car valets, who use their position to rob the homes of their customers. Inevitably, they eventually rob the wrong home, and face some unexpected consequences.

The first thing that is very clear about this movie is that it is about men.

Interview: John Michael is the One-Man Show in ‘Dementia Me’

Chicago – No one would call talented one-man-show artist John Michael conventional, at least if they are in their right mind. So ironically, after tackling sexually transmitted disease in his last solo performance, he takes on the vagrancies of old age and caring for elderly patients in his truly heartfelt “Dementia Me.”

“Dementia Me” will run at the Den Theatre within the Wicker Park neighborhood in Chicago from August 15th through September 12th, 2016, on consecutive Mondays at 8pm (details below). This solo performance is a tour de force, using mostly balloons and party favors for props – Michael even invites everyone to a “birthday party” for one of the patients before the show. The emotions in the show will affect anyone who has known the heartbreak of seeing loved ones become less of themselves as they age (which is practically everybody), and how that state of being leads the main character himself to other revelations.

Saved by the Bell: Our Review of the Chicago Pop-Up Restaurant

I grew up in the 90’s, so it is no surprise that I loved Saved by the Bell. If you visit our website frequently, you probably already knew that from the amount of articles I write dedicated to the show. I was overjoyed when it was announced that the beloved series that ran on NBC from 1989-1993 would be given its very own restaurant in Chicago. Tickets were limited and I was lucky enough to be one of the first patrons to Saved by the Max, which opened in the windy city’s Wicker Park area on June 1st. For fans who were

It's been a big week for Luke Cage, with series star Mike Colter confirming that the series will debut on September 30. Just a few days later, the first trailer debuted on Netflix, hidden on the streaming service behind the final episode of Daredevil Season 2. Over the weekend, filmmaker Paul McGuigan (Victor Frankenstein) teased on his Twitter page that he directed the first two episodes of this highly-anticipated series. While he's best known as a filmmaker, Paul McGuigan has also made his mark on the small screen as well.

The filmmaker has directed a number of pilot episodes throughout his career, including FX's miniseries Thief, Lifetime's Devious Maids, ABC's Lucky 7 and ABC's new series The Family, which debuted earlier this month. Victor Frankenstein – The Review

By Cate Marquis

James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in Victor Frankenstein, a kind of origin story/re-imagining of classic monster story told from Igor’s point-of-view.

Medical student Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) is visiting a circus in Victorian London in search of animal body parts for his secret experiments, when a beautiful trapeze artist (Jessica Brown Findley) falls from her perch. The doctor rushes to assist but she is already being aided by the circus’ self-taught doctor, a hunch-back clown (Radcliffe). Impressed by the nameless clown’s skill and knowledge of anatomy, Frankenstein helps him escape the circus and takes him back to his laboratory, where he treats his physical problems. Given the name of Victor’s missing roommate, Igor Straussman, Frankenstein offers him friendship, a place to stay, an extensive library and a chance to help in his effort to create life.

The film is a mash-up of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel,

Brooklyn movie review: across the ocean to find yourself

Beautifully portrays a very universal experience — not only of immigration but of growing up — via an elegantly nuanced performance by Saoirse Ronan. I’m “biast” (pro): love Saoirse Ronan

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I have not read the source material

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

In 2011, I moved from New York to London. I can make free video phone calls to my friends and family, and I can be home in a few hours; planes go back and forth between the two cities with the regularity and frequency of a bus schedule (if, alas, for quite a bit more than bus fare). But still: it was hard. It remains an emotional challenge to be separated from people I love back home even as I get more and more emotionally connected to a new home.

So I cannot even imagine what it must have

Watch: Get Immortal With First Clip And New Images From 'Victor Frankenstein' With James McAvoy & Daniel Radcliffe

A blockbuster movie that also has something to say? The devil you say! Daniel Radcliffe, who co-stars in the upcoming "Victor Frankenstein" with James McAvoy, says the movie penned by Max Landis has some substance between the stitching. “I like the fact that it’s a studio movie with these big sets and sequences, but there’s also a cool intellectual debate going on. Our innate fear of technology and the fear of people who push it beyond where we’re comfortable with it going… feels like a nice combination,” the actor told Nylon. Read More: Review: 'I Frankenstein,' Starring Aaron Eckhart, Yvonne Strahovski & Bill Nighy In this clip from the film directed by Paul McGuigan (“Wicker Park,” "Gangster No. 1"), McAvoy's Victor Frankenstein almost freakishly enthuses about the possibilities of technology to make man immortal. Then he does a magic trick. "Victor Frankenstein" arrives on November 25th. Check
