Storyline

A film crew travels to the Hong Kong countryside to make an 'MTV' show. During their stay at the village, the crew hears eerie and horrific voices during the night and witnesses a phantom roaming around the premises. In addition, some feel that their feet were being tickled while in the water performing. The villagers attest that their territory is not haunted, but an old villager, familiar with the village's past, sheds light into the mystery. Written by Oliver Chu

More comedic than ghostly.

Number seven in the Troublesome Night series has the trilogy starting to take a decline in quality. While still a pretty entertaining movie, with some of the original/regular actors appearing in it (Louis Koo, Simon Lui, James Lai, Amanda Lee, Frankie Ng and Lan Law), the movie relies a lot on goofy comedy and slapstick humor. There are smacks of ghost action here and there, but they are mostly sequestered toward the end. There are really no scary moments and the suspense is a bare minimum.

The movie centers on a film crew trying to make an 'MTV' show in the county side, but their work is interrupted by horrific noises during the night and the appearances of a phantom roaming around the premises. This plot element sounds freaky, but it is filmed in a way that is not chilling. Much of the story is really about the film crew trying go on with their show and them squabbling with the villagers.

Aside from the lack of suspense and hair-raising moments, which were found in the past Troublesome Night movies, this movie isn't too bad. You get to see Amanda Lee sing a catchy song, Louis Koo and Nadia Chan star as a long-lost ghost couple and Lan Law use her ghostly ritual powers (a theme that will be recurring in the following Troublesome Night movies). The plot isn't too slow or boring overall and the music score is haunting.

It's an overall serviceable ghost-comedy. It also features the last appearances of Louis Koo and Amanda Lee in the movie series.
