How Hustlers shows the importance of female solidarity

In the acclaimed fact-based drama, the bond between women is shown with rare sensitivity and depth even as they engage in criminal acts

This article contains spoilers

The marketing campaign for Hustlers, a film that opened to an unexpectedly impressive $33m at the Us box office last weekend, presents the film as a fun, woke, neon-soaked update of Coyote Ugly. But behind the pink-and-blue-hued ads showcasing the stars Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B, lies powerful commentary on the nature of female intimacy, a mass market shell hiding surprisingly incisive feminism.

Soundtracking: Coyote Ugly

by Chris Feil

Few modern soundtracks distill the essence of a film as wonderfully as Coyote Ugly. In the vein of Flashdance and its ilk, the film follows a creative young woman as she navigates a world of male objectification. It takes its name from the famous bar featuring hot chicks serving booze to cheering men and plops Piper Perabo’s heroine Violet in that environment as she chases her songwriting dreams. But instead of the Hooters brand of male-defined sexuality that immediately comes to mind, this bar finds the women in power of their male audience. The musical world of Coyote Ugly revels as much in the girl power as it operates around (and subverts) male gaze, thanks especially to a few great originals by LeAnn Rimes.

Whatever Happened to the Ladies of “Coyote Ugly?”

Back in 2000 a film was made that was labeled as sexist by writers such as Lucy Huber of 22 Words, even misogynistic, and just silly without a lick of common sense to its name. She has the right to her opinion and all that but if you were old enough to sit there and enjoy Coyote Ugly however you weren’t likely worrying too much about sexism and you definitely weren’t practicing misogyny in any way, shape, or form since the female actors that made the movie what it was synced up perfectly with the male actors and the whole

Lethal Weapon Season 3 Episode 13 Review: Coyote Ugly

Lethal Weapon goes down to Mexico to learn some important lessons about family and break a few ribs along the way.

This Lethal Weapon review contains spoilers.

Lethal Weapon Season 3 Episode 13

“Why don’t you tell me where you come from?”

Lethal Weapon often celebrates flashy shootouts, messy car crashes, and extravagant explosions. It’s a procedural series that loves to throw a quirky crime at the Lapd and the audience to keep things interesting, but it’s a show that knows that it’s based on a schlocky buddy-cop action film. Occasionally Lethal Weapon strives for a little more regarding the relevancy of its storytelling and “Coyote Ugly” decides to get topical as border security becomes the episode’s major focus. The case of the week involves a Mexican father and daughter who make a run for the border and get tragically separated. The safety of this immigrant family comes under scrutiny,

Lethal Weapon Season 3 Episode 13: Coyote Ugly Exclusive Clip

Daniel Kurland Feb 12, 2019

Roger begins to sweat in this sneak peek from tonight’s all-new episode of Lethal Weapon, “Coyote Ugly."

Lethal Weapon season 3 has been full of curveballs, which is a deviation from previous seasons of the show. The show typically has a go for broke attitude when it comes to the end of the season, but that feels especially prevalent this time around since there are still a number of major storylines and character arcs that need to be put to rest before the season finale.

Most of the heavier, serialized stories in Lethal Weapon have to do with Roger Murtaugh and Wesley Cole’s work in the Lapd, or the complicated personal life that Cole attempts to put back together. That being said, the show has slowly allowed for other characters to step into the spotlight, such as Roger’s wife, Trish. It’s always a pleasure when Trish takes center stage.

PEN15 Review (Spoiler-Free)

Full of 2000s nostalgia and featuring a hooky gimmick, PEN15 is the latest in a recent string of excellent adolescent-focused comedies.

The adolescent coming-of-age story is having something of a renaissance. Despite actual teenagers being able to create content for themselves with the advent of YouTube, TikTok, and other social media channels, adult creators are still looking backward to their own youths to give the kids of today a guide for navigating their own awkward years. Sex Education, Eighth Grade, and Big Mouth are all recent examples of the trend. Also, if millennials have provided one export to the pop culture world at large, it's nostalgia. Just graze through the glut of BuzzFeed’s ‘90s-obsessed content or Twitter’s wealth of yesteryear-inspired memes to see that an entire arrested development generation is hooked on revisiting their childhood glory days.

Hulu’s new comedy PEN15, covers both trends in one fell swoop,

Carrie Fisher's Personal Star Wars Scripts Go Up for Auction
Carrie Fisher's hand annotated Star Wars scripts are going up for auction during a three- day Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds personal property action on October 7th through the 9th in Los Angeles, California. Profiles in History is in charge of the auctions and they expect the scripts to fetch some decent money, so if you are interested in any of these, they aren't going to go for cheap. These are important pieces of the Star Wars legacy and will be a worthy addition for any collector.

Fisher was known for taking her pencil out and crossing out some of the clunkier dialogue in the script and replacing it with her own witty dialogue. That fact is especially evident in her personal The Empire Strikes Back script, which has over 1,000 words handwritten by the actress in it. There are actually four scripts going up for auction, as she had two different ones for Empire.

NCIS Season 15 Is Bringing On A New Female Agent For Action,New Details

Recently, CBS put out a news article on their website revealing that we’re about to see a new female agent join the NCIS crew for the upcoming season 15. It turns out that the show has decided to hire actress Maria Bello to portray an NCIS agent that was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army and served two tours in Afghanistan. Their article didn’t reveal the character’s name. So, I guess we’ll have to wait until later on or until she finally arrives on the show to get that intel. Adding to the character’s description, they said, “After joining NCIS, the character built her reputation as the agency's premier forensic psychologist. Unlike the other agents, she can second-guess and challenge Gibbs. So, there will be friction but also mutual respect. She is a positive force, mischievous and at times, acerbic. They say she will
