Best of Frightfest: ‘Pitch Black’ Dir. David Twohy

Best of Frightfest: As the twentieth anniversary of Arrow Video Frightfest approaches, we at team Thn take a look back at some of the best and brightest films that have screened over the last two decades. Today we take a look back at Pitch Black.

Once upon a time, Vin Diesel was an unknown actor. It’s hard to believe now given that he’s the lead in one of the most (unexpectedly) successful film franchises. Before he stepped behind the wheels for The Fast and the Furious, he made his name in the science-fiction horror Pitch Black. In the film, he starred as Riddick, a supposedly dangerous criminal whose transport to incarceration is interrupted when the ship crash-lands on a strange planet. Riddick immediately escapes, and soon after, bodies start to pile up. The initial assumption that Riddick is behind them is soon put to rest when the group

Vin Diesel reveals that Riddick 4: Furya script is complete

It seems that Vin Diesel’s Richard B. Riddick could be heading back to the big screen in the not-too-distant future, with the actor revealing on Instagram that writer-director David Twohy has completed the script for the next instalment in the Chronicles of Riddick franchise, titled Riddick 4: Furya.

Twohy and Diesel first brought the antihero Riddick to the screen in the sci-fi action film Pitch Black back in 2000. The film was a surprise hit and quickly gained a cult following, leading to the big budget follow-up The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004. This disappointed at the box office but strong home video sales eventually led to another sequel, the more modestly budgeted Riddick, back in 2013.

The ‘Riddick 4’ Script is Done, Just in Case Anyone Other Than Vin Diesel Wants to See It

The ‘Riddick 4’ Script is Done, Just in Case Anyone Other Than Vin Diesel Wants to See It
Vin Diesel loves dropping news on his Instagram account, and his latest is a doozy. It appears the script for Riddick 4 actually exists, and to prove it, Diesel held the physical copy it. Titled Riddick 4: Furya, the script presumably brings back Diesel’s Pitch Black character for yet another adventure. But is anyone even interested in that? Besides […]

Vin Diesel Says That Riddick 4: Furya’s Script Is Now Complete

While Vin Diesel might best be known for his roles in The Fast and the Furious and Guardians of the Galaxy series, he was (arguably) propelled into stardom thanks to his work in Pitch Black, which hit theater screens all the way back in 2000. That particular movie has been forgotten by many, but you might be more familiar with its sequels – including 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick.

Ever since its original release, Pitch Black has been retitled as The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black, and over the past two decades, Diesel has reprised his role as Richard B. Riddick, everyone’s favorite Furyan mercenary/soldier/pilot/all-around badass, on more than a few occasions.

While Vin’s busy shooting Fast & Furious 9 (along with two sequels to James Cameron’s Avatar) at the moment, it seems like he may be reprising his role as Riddick in the near future as well.

Riddick 4: Furya Script Revealed by Vin Diesel

Joseph Baxter Jul 23, 2019

Vin Diesel is not done with Riddick yet, with the reveal that creator David Twohy has completed the script for a fourth film.

Vin Diesel still has a hand firmly on the wheel of his Fast & Furious film franchise, which, having earned $5.1 billion across its eight entries, has put the pedal to the metal for two more (main series) movies, set to end with a tenth film in 2021. However, the franchise that first brought Diesel to prominence, the dark sci-fi action of the Riddick films, appears to have more in the tank as well. Indeed, the star has revealed that the script for Riddick 4 is done.

In an Instagram video commemorating his recent birthday, Vin Diesel revealed that Riddick franchise mastermind David Twohy sent him a most auspicious present: the completed script for a new sequel, titled Riddick 4: Furya. While Diesel isn't exactly dishing on its contents,

Riddick 4: Furya Script Is Finished Confirms Vin Diesel

Riddick 4: Furya Script Is Finished Confirms Vin Diesel
Well, it looks like there is another entry in the Pitch Black series coming our way called The Chronicles of Riddick 4: Furya. Franchise star Vin Diesel himself took to Instagram to let the world know that the fourth entry in the cult classic sci-fi series is written and ready to roll. The new movie is once again written by David Twohy and comes with the badass tagline: "Everyone wants to be a beast until it's time to do what real beasts do."

This fourth film is, of course, the newest entry in the Riddick series which kicked off back in 2000 with the release of Pitch Black starring Vin Diesel, Radha Mitchell, Cole Hauser, and Keith David. That film was followed up in 2004 with The Chronicles of Riddick costarring Thandie Newton, Karl Urban, and Colm Feore. And the whole she-bang seemingly ended in 2013 when Riddick: Rule the Dark hit theaters co-starring Katee Sackhoff,

25 Hidden Details Only True Fans Noticed In The Fifth Element

Sometimes, a good science fiction epic comes from almost out of nowhere and becomes an instant classic. It happened with Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. I and Pitch Black. It happened with Alien and Predator. But those movies also launched franchises or are a part of one. When The Fifth Element came out in 1997, there was just about nothing like it. In fact, some critics heralded it as “the next Star Wars.” In some ways, there still hasn’t been a film like this one.

Yes, the story of a savior and the people trying to help him or her save the world or the galaxy or what have you has been told before. But much like George Lucas did twenty years prior, writer and director Luc Besson took a simple story and crafted an entirely new way to tell it. 300 some odd years in the future, the galaxy is

Doctor Who 11×05 “The Tsuranga Conundrum” Review

It’s hard to have a filler episode of Doctor Who. The show’s built around each week providing a fresh storyline, location, supporting cast and the rest of it, so by nature, every outing’s of as equal importance as the rest. If it’s possible, though, “The Tsuranga Conundrum” feels like the filler episode of season 11. It’s an installment in search of a great hook that ultimately saunters along to its finish line and probably won’t stay long in the memory. After a run of episodes that possessed a lot of personality and heart, it’s a disappointment to say the least.

There’s a definite trend developing around season 11’s plots so far. Showrunner Chris Chibnall seems to enjoy taking the concept from a famous sci-fi movie – Predator for episode 1, Pitch Black for episode 2 and so on – and giving it a family-friendly re-write. In this case,

Are We Ever Going to See a Riddick 4?

At the moment it would appear that we should be seeing a Riddick 4 in the years to come, perhaps even sooner than we think, but what it will be about is still up in the air since no one is giving up any real plot details other than the most broad and possibly expansive when it comes to the setting. One thing that is known about Riddick is that he’s been a fan favorite ever since he first arrived in Pitch Black, a scifi horror film that was considered to be pretty good and innovative but not altogether great

Movie Review – Killing Joan (2018)

Killing Joan, 2018.

Directed by Todd Bartoo.

Starring Jamie Bernadette, Teo Celigo, Erik Aude, David Carey Foster, Daniel Gardner, Dion Basco, Pavle Kujundzic, Casper Andreas, Katarina Leigh Waters, Erin O’Brien, Alexandra Lemus, and Danny Mika.

Synopsis:

Mob enforcer Joan Butler (Jamie Bernadette) finds herself betrayed by her erstwhile employer. After being attacked she returns from the dead with otherworldly powers and sets out for revenge against those who wronged her.

Killing Joan is best compared to The Crow, the gothic urban fantasy starring Brandon Lee. Both films see their anti-heroes return from the dead for vengeance wielding dark, vague supernatural powers against their murderers. Sign me up! Unfortunately, Killing Joan plays more like the straight to DVD sequels that the original Crow spawned. The film shows glimmers of a cult hit but succumbs to fumbling acting, clunky storytelling, clammy dialogue and stagey action.

To be fair and clear, credit is

Blu-ray Review: Warlock Collection [Vestron Video Collector’s Series]

  • DailyDead
Horror was in a weird place in the early 1990s. Most of the big franchises of the ’80s had more or less run their course, and in their place were a handful of new “icons” that would be turned into franchises whether it was warranted or not: the Child’s Play movies continued to be a growing concern, as did Candyman and Hellraiser and Leprechaun. One attempt to launch a new franchise that never quite took was 1991’s Warlock, which inspired two sequels of varying quality before calling it quits. All three films are now gathered together on Blu-ray for the first time as part of the Warlock Collection, the latest in the Vestron Video Collector’s Series from Lionsgate.

The original Warlock is genuinely something special—maybe not a new classic, but certainly a really good version of what it is. It’s a film with an impressive
