Trivia

Originally Chris Roberts only intended the Wing Commander series to be a trilogy, but due to the success of the previous game and Electronics Arts not selling enough other computer games, he was asked to make a fourth game. However he was only given one year to make it, whereas he would have preferred two years in order to develop a new "engine" for the game. Wing Commander IV uses the same game engine as Wing Commander III i.e. the gameplay and overall design of the game is similar, but with enhanced graphics. Roberts tried to compensate for this for focusing more on the storytelling with more live action cutscenes than in the previous game. See more »

Goofs

Maniac and Vagabond don't wear any medal ribbons on their Confed uniforms, when in the previous game they did. Yet Blair still does, the same amount as he had before (3). Eisen and Tolwyn also have medals, each a slightly higher amount than they did before. See more »

Quotes

Catscratch: Attacking that convoy... is this the way wars start?
Blair: Let me tell you something, Catscratch. Wars are like bombs. The fuse gets lit before you actually hear the bang and sometimes the fuse can be pretty long.

Alternate Versions

After destroying or disabling the Lexington, we see a cut scene of Seether and Captain Paulson escaping in a shuttle. On the original PC six disc release we get a close up of Seether cutting Paulson's throat. However, on the Playstation and DVD version we get an alternate take where Paulson's 'execution' takes place just out of view. Also, Seether tells Paulson to "Stop whining" in this alternate take. The original close up take is viewable on the DVD version by accessing the video file directly on the DVD disc. See more »

High point of the series
6 July 1999 | by locomanSee all my reviews

This is the high point for the videos of the entire Wing Commander series, and the computer games in general. Films using real Hollywood techniques and an astronomical (for computer games) budget, we got the best video sequences ever seen on a computer screen, and even better on its DVD version.
