‘SNL’s Kenan Thompson On “Woke Times,” Shane Gillis Ouster, Emmy Show Selfies, “Heartbreaking” Fall Of Bill Cosby
Kenan Thompson, who is in his 17th season as a performer on Saturday Night Live, covered a wide range of show lore in a 90-minute appearance Sunday at the New Yorker Festival.

The firing of debut cast member Shane Gillis in September before his first episode and after racist jokes and comments surfaced online, reflects the current “woke times,” Thompson said. The mood has changed since the 2016 presidential election, and the job of all comedians has fundamentally shifted, he maintained. “It’s very touchy out there,” he said. “It’s interesting to see things like that happen, whatever side of the argument you’re on,” he said. “I don’t think any of us who work there go out with the intent to offend or people or hurt anyone’s feelings. Matching with that ideology, that’s the brand [show producers and NBC] want to keep alive.”

Tyler Perry Developing Nickelodeon Series With ‘Ellen Show’ Star Young Dylan
Tyler Perry is developing a Nickelodeon series featuring an “Ellen DeGeneres Show” favorite.

The prolific producer announced that Young Dylan (a 10-year-old regularly featured interviewing guests on “Ellen”) will be getting his own series at the network during a surprise appearance on DeGeneres’ show.

“I’m excited to work with Brian and the team at Nickelodeon and find creative ways to reach new audiences,” said Perry. “I love creating comedy television and can’t wait to work with the talented Young Dylan.”

The project, which Perry will write, tells the story of a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, an aspiring hip-hop star (Dylan), moves in unannounced.

“It’s a thrill to bring this new series to Nickelodeon from the incredibly talented and prolific Tyler Perry, whose track record speaks for itself” said Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins in a statement. “Dylan is an incredibly talented 10-year-old

‘Dancing with the Stars’ power rankings (week 1): At least one celeb was Way better than the judges gave them credit for
After a year-long hiatus “Dancing with the Stars” is back with 12 new celebrities gracing the dance floor to win the next Mirror Ball Trophy. In typical “DWTS” fashion, this season already had its fair share of drama, from Sean Spicer’s controversial casting, to Christie Brinkley’s unexpected injury and withdrawal, to her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook filling in for her at the 11th hour. And in a “DWTS” first we learned the stars’ professional partners right before the couples took the stage to perform their first routine of the season — though those pairings had already leaked out ahead of time anyway.

Along with a new intro and set, we also saw the judges change their tune in terms of scoring. For the first time in several seasons, not one couple scored higher than a 7, and the 3 paddles made a couple of rare appearances.

Kel Mitchell is also keeping an eye on James Van Der Beek on ‘Dancing with the Stars’: ‘He’s a beast’
The Beek may be up a creek with the Mirrorball trophy soon. After Hannah Brown and Ally Brooke have both said James Van Der Beek was the one to beat on “Dancing with the Stars,” Kel Mitchell is now saying the same.

“He’s a beast, Ok?” the “Kenan & Kel” alum told PeopleTV’s “Reality Check” (watch below). “Me and him, nonstop. When I’m in there, he’s in there. Every time I go to rehearse, I see James.”

Mitchell revealed that the actor sometimes rehearses by himself before his partner arrives. “Shout-out to James. That was a surprise I did see, which I thought was very, very cool, that he was in there before his partner got there,” he said. “He’s definitely in the zone.”

The “All That” star is also very well aware of Van Der Beek’s previous “Dancing” stint by way of “Don

No kidding around: Could Kel Mitchell go from child star to ‘Dancing with the Stars’ champion?
I actually suggested Kel Mitchell as a possible cast member for “Dancing with the Stars” this past spring, and they must have taken my advice because he’s competing in the upcoming 28th season of the series. It begins on September 16, but before Mitchell and his competitors hit the dance floor, let’s consider his pros and cons.

Pros

Mitchell does have the nostalgia factor going for him: Millennials who grew up watching him on Nickelodeon in the 1990s might tune in and vote to see him again. He started out as a series regular on the long-running kids’ sketch comedy series “All That,” which led to him and co-star Kenan Thompson getting their own sitcom, “Kenan & Kel.” They even got to star in their own movie, “Good Burger” (1997), which was based on a popular “All That” sketch. ‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 28 preview slugfest: Possible front-runners and the star we like the least – yes, That one [Watch]
“I hope he gets eliminated very quickly,” I told Gold Derby contributors Jeffrey Kare and Cordell Martin about “Dancing with the Stars” season 28’s controversial inclusion of former White House press secretary Sean Spicer. “I think this is probably the first casting that even the host of the show, Tom Bergeron, had to publicly distance himself from because it’s such a bad idea.” Martin concurs: “I don’t understand why the producers would even go this route.” And Kare thinks “people would feel a lot better if it were Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer.” Watch our slugfest above.

But our discussion wasn’t just about the headline-grabbing Spicer selection. We also did our best to anticipate who might have the strongest ballroom skills, sight unseen. I think Ally Brooke is a strong potential contender since her former Fifth Harmony band mate Normani made it to the finals in season

‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 28 cast revealed: James Van Der Beek, Karamo Brown and … Sean freakin’ Spicer?!

‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 28 cast revealed: James Van Der Beek, Karamo Brown and … Sean freakin’ Spicer?!
On the August 21 edition of “Good Morning America,” “Dancing with the Stars” announced the celebrities who will enter the ballroom for season 28 starting on September 16. They are as follows:

— Mary Wilson (former Supremes singer)

Karamo Brown

Hannah Brown

Christie Brinkley (supermodel)

Lauren Alaina (country singer)

James Van Der Beek

Ray Lewis (NFL football player)

Kate Flannery

Ally Brooke (former Fifth Harmony singer)

Lamar Odom (NBA basketball player)

Kel Mitchell

Sean Spicer (former White House press secretary)

That list represents a familiar mix of music stars, actors, athletes, reality show personalities and legends of yesteryear for “DWTS.” Even the inclusion of Sean Spicer isn’t that unusual, though it may be especially contentious this season. The show has featured right-wing political figures before, from Tucker Carlson (white nationalism denier on Fox News) to Rick Perry (currently in charge of Us nukes), but it may be especially controversial now after the summer

The news come after a week of teasers posted on ABC’s Instagram, in which the broadcaster shared sneaky photos of cast-members whose identities were hidden via strategic cropping and props such as disco balls.

Oliver Tree Is Outlandish, and It’s Working

Not long after Oliver Tree released the video for “All That x Alien Boy” — in which the bowl-cutted singer gets bowled over by a minivan, staggers to his feet bloody but unbowed, finds his way to a monster truck, and uses it to wreak vengeance on his attacker — Jeff Levin watched the clip nearly ruin a relationship.

“I was sitting with a couple, two of my closest friends in the world, and we were all watching the video,” says Levin, who has spent the last seven years in the A&r department at Atlantic Records.

New Hollywood Podcast: Kel Mitchell Talks ‘All That’ Reboot, His ‘Good Burger’ Legacy And Love For Orange Soda
During the mid-’90s — specifically 1994 — we were still basking in grunge, films like Reality Bites and shows like My So-Called Life were defining a generation while chokers, baby doll dresses, crop tops and “The Rachel” hairstyle were all the rage. Then, on April 16, 1994, Nickelodeon debuted the comedy sketch show called All That and it sparked a very specific golden age of TV for young adults. The series starred Angelique Bates, Lori Beth Denberg, Katrina Johnson, Alisa Reyes, Josh Server, Kenan Thompson and, this week’s guest on the New Hollywood Podcast Kel Mitchell. 25 years later the show is a benchmark in pop culture and Mitchell is executive producing (and appearing in) a reboot of All That which not only introduces the good-natured, silly sketch show to a new generation but also sparks nostalgia for those who remember laughing a Coach Kreeton for the first time.

Alex Trebek brought the audience to their feet — and Jon Hamm almost to tears — when he took to the stage at the 2019 NHL Awards on Wednesday night.

The annual event honoring the league’s best regular-season performances was one of the “Jeopardy!” host and longtime hockey fan’s few public appearances since announcing his Stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

“Thank you Jon, thank you Las Vegas, and thanks to the hockey world for all your support. Growing up in Canada, you realize very early on that hockey is in your DNA,” the Ontario native said, as he recalled how his favorite player of all time, Gordie Howe, had once won the Hart Memorial Trophy.

Trebek, 78, went on to present this year’s trophy for the league Mvp to Tampa Bay Lightening right winger Nikita Kucherov.
