Goofs

The Soviet Union did not officially compete in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. The USSR did not exist after December 26, 1991 and the Olympic Committee of the USSR disbanded on March 12, 1992. Quotes

Kate: I'm sure there's nothing I do that you'd find exciting. I don't open beer bottles with my toes, I don't sit around and count what's left of my teeth, hey, I don't even enjoy a good tractor pull. It's been a limited existence, but I've gotten used to it.
Doug: Life of the party, huh? Place must be crawling with guys.
Kate: As a matter of fact, I do have a boyfriend.
Doug: Well there's a rough gig. What do you do, keep him chained up in the basement?
Kate: Hale at the moment is working in my father's London office, he's...

Alternate Versions

In Region 1, the earlier DVD (with only a trailer as an extra) is anamorphically enhanced, properly framed, and 101 minutes. The "Gold Medal Edition" DVD later released is non-anamorphic, missing a significant amount of picture on the left, right, and bottom, and only 97 minutes because it is time compressed somehow (the same way 25 fps PAL video is sped up from a 24 fps film source). Favorite Film of All Time

As a figure skater, my movie choices of my profession are rather limited. If you take out Ronin, in which Katarina Witt is shot, Ice Castle, which I hated, the Cutting Edge is practically the only one left. I loved it. Sure the movie wasn't realistic, but it was good none the less. Wholesome and the skating sequences weren't bad. I loved the Pamchenko. My parter and I even attempted it a few times. Overall, definitely watch this if you are a fan of skating or just have an afternoon to watch a movie. I've seen it more than 20 times...this movie is timeless. My coach plays clips from this movie to us when we are waiting for our turn to compete and even at the celebration parties. I love it.
