When the police finds a necklace with some criminal, a detective remembers that it was missing evidence in a murderer case many years ago. So it turns out that Jeff Hayes, sentenced to life-long prison, was innocent. After 18 years in jail he's finally released - but has problems finding back into normal life. There's his father who believed him guilty and his ex-wife Ellen, who told their son Kerry and her new husband Paul Kramer his father had died.
Jeff Hayes was tried and convicted for killing a wealthy and powerful man's wife. It seems that the man lied but no one could prove it. 18 years later, the detective who worked the case discovers evidence that proves that Jeff is innocent, so he is released. He then goes to see his ex-wife and find out about their son. It seems that she told him that their son that he was dead, and now she has to tell him that he isn't. It also seems that the boy upset over her mother's remarriage is acting up and her husband is fed up with him and would like him to leave. Jeff goes to see his father, who believed that he was guilty, and try to reconcile. Jeff would also be contacted by the son of the man who sent him to prison and tries to make ammends by offering him a job as a writer for his publication. Jeff also reveals himself to his son and they try to begin their paternal relationship.
