Inside DC's Metal Men Reboot

Jim Dandy Sep 23, 2019

The Metal Men will return to the DC Universe with all the fun and weirdness you always hoped for from the team.

Dan Didio and Shane Davis separately have a history of mining the classic DC Universe, maintaining what makes them classic characters while tweaking them for modern consumption - Davis on Superman: Earth One and Didio on, among other things, the best book of the New 52 relaunch, Omac. But these updates are rarely radical departures. Omac was no longer Buddy Blank, but he was still a corporate drone dealing with girlfriend troubles fighting for world peace. So when we had a chance to talk to Davis and Didio about their new book, Metal Men, we asked about what each was drawing from to bring the classic characters to the world of 2020.

“To be perfectly honest,” Didio says, “one of the things that inspired me to go

Rudy 2: Watch Sean Astin Reprise Iconic Role in New KFC Commercial
The NFL 2019-2020 season is officially underway. In honor of the occasion, Sean Astin is back as his iconic character from the 1993 football movie Rudy. KFC has brought Astin on board to be their latest Colonel Sanders, but he is "Colonel Rudy" this time around and the ad leans heavily on footage from the movie. The ad even boasts a fake sequel: "Rudy II: He's Colonel Sanders now." Astin had this to say about signing up with KFC.

"When KFC approached me to reprise the role of Rudy, but play him as Colonel Sanders, I knew this was something I couldn't pass up. Getting to recreate some of the film's iconic scenes with a KFC spin was such a fun experience."

This isn't the only time we're going to see Sean Astin reprising his role from Rudy for the KFC ads. Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger is chasing a new dream, which

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 26 Review: Nevermore

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 26

Young Justice: Outsiders has been up and down. It’s been a lot more up than down, but the negatives of the season are there and undeniable. And true to the entire season before it, “Nevermore,” the season finale, does just about everything narratively that the rest of the season has done before it, and the result is a mixed bag of an episode that’s mostly good with some glaring, grating issues.

The action is clearly in the “good” category. Everyone raids Markovia to unseat Baron Bedlam. Alpha squad is responsible for the frontal attack on Bedlam - Beast Boy, Cyborg, Geoforce, and Terra. Beta squad booms in to take out backup - Nightwing, Superboy, Artemis, Forager, and Halo.

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 25

Young Justice uses the second to last episode of the season to take a break from the endgame and look back at how far the team's come. The result is one of the strongest episodes of Young Justice season 3.

The episode follows two stories and sprinkles in some setup for upcoming episodes. One sets up the final episode: Brion and Tara’s brother sneaks to Hollywood to see them and tell them that he’s trying to find a way to get them back into Markovia. The other storyline focuses on Cyborg and Halo, having defeated Granny Goodness and closed off the Apokalips storyline for the season. They’re babysitting Lian for the night with Beast Boy when Metron shows

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 24

Young Justice starts the final run of the season by closing out most of its Apokalips storyline. Who could have guessed that a Gorilla-Beast Boy vs. Business Granny Goodness showdown would be so much fun? Now that I typed it out, I'm sure the correct answer to that is "everyone."

As The Team headed off to Granny's Orphanage in space last week, Beast Boy also gathered a crew to go investigate some of Granny's Earthly holdings. Cyborg is figuring out his powers now that he's in control of them, so he's been scanning for possible locations for Halo and found a studio storage facility on the Goode World lot, so Beast Boy, Cyborg, Wonder Girl, El Dorado and Blue Beetle investigate.

Ezra Miller Once Again Says ‘Flash’ Is “Absolutely Confirmed” As He Attempts To Speak The Film Into Existence

Five years ago, Warner Bros. and DC made a monumental error in judgment and announced a highly ambitious slate of superhero films that would constitute the Dceu. This proposed slate included films that eventually were made, such as “Justice League,” “Suicide Squad,” “Wonder Woman,” “Shazam!” and “Aquaman.” But then you have films like “Justice League Part 2,” “Green Lantern,” “Cyborg,” and “The Flash,” which never released.

Class of 1989: Cyborg – Heaven and Hell, Cyberpunk Surfer Villains, and Van Dammage

[We're celebrating some of the most memorable horror and sci-fi movies of 1989 this month in Daily Dead's Class of 89 retrospective series! Check back on Daily Dead throughout the rest of August for more special features celebrating the 30th anniversaries of a wide range of horror and sci-fi films!]

If you are old enough, I’m sure you miss the video store days. Those wonderful Friday nights at the local movie rental palace, with row after row of potential mind-expanding, mind-exploding cinema. From the experimental to the exploitive and even the exalted works in beautiful genre-identified, alphabetized sections with a recommendation wall where Godard’s Pierrot le fou could live comfortably next to Gordon’s From Beyond. It was an exceptional time and place for a cinephile to wander, sometimes aimlessly, into an interesting Friday night movie.

In my neighborhood, we had all the rental chains and a few “mom and pop” shops, but the best place in my neck of the woods to find the strangest cataloging of movies was at this local grocery store that had the videos right next to the bakery. The grouping of movies ranged from “Clint Eastwood Westerns” to “Non-Clint Eastwood Westerns,” “Scary

Did Jason Momoa Just Watch Justice League Snyder Cut, or Is He Trolling Fans?

Did Jason Momoa Just Watch Justice League Snyder Cut, or Is He Trolling Fans?
Did Jason Momoa really just watch Justice League Snyder Cut? Or is he trolling fans to get eyes on a new video he shared on Instagram? There has been much discussion since the release of Justice League back in 2017 that a mythical cut of the film by original director Zack Snyder exists somewhere out in the ether. There have been rumours, fan campaigns, petitions and no doubt some magical rituals, all with the aim of convincing the Warner Bros. studio to release this unconfirmed cut of the film. Even the very existence of such a cut has been the subject of much speculation across the internet with huge swathes of fans falling on either side of this DC inspired conspiracy.

Well, we may now have something that could be described as vindication, as the title star of Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, has seemingly seen the Zack Snyder cut and has

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 22

Grading on a relative scale, last week's episode of Young Justice was a debacle. It was too busy and too rushed. This week's episode, "Antisocial," fixes almost every problem with "Unknown Factors" by dramatically narrowing its scale. It sacrifices some action in doing so, but this episode really starts thundering towards the finale and pushing plot lines to their inevitable conclusions.

The action starts out focused at the Outsider's Hollywood headquarters. Everyone is recovering from their ordeal in Granny's X-Pit, but the only one nearing death is Dick. Batman grabs Oracle, Robin, Aquaman and Miss Martian for a private conference, and Black Lightning pieces everything together. He figures out that the resignations were staged, and that the team has

10 Ways Green Lantern Could Be Introduced In The Dceu

Warner Bros. were so eager to jump into the DC Extended Universe that they only introduced Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman prior to doing a Justice League movie. Marvel introduced us to everyone with a solo movie before assembling the Avengers, but Warner Bros. just couldn’t wait.

Related: 10 Questions A Justice League Sequel Could Have Answered

They crammed the Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg into Justice League without setting them up first. This rushed build-up meant that Green Lantern wasn’t even in the Justice League movie, which is a slap in the face to DC Comics fans. He still has yet to make an appearance in the franchise, so here are 10 Ways Green Lantern Could Be Introduced In The Dceu.

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 21

For a couple of weeks now, Young Justice: Outsiders has felt like they were trying to do too much but getting away with it. That is not the case with "Unknown Factors." This episode is where they stop getting away with it.

Weirdly enough, we're running fewer plots than normal this week. After last episode's revelation about Granny Goodness being part of the war in space, Nightwing and Black Lightning bring their loaner motherbox and go to her penthouse to check it out. They get captured, and Aquaman and Wynnd, his partner, head in to try and spring them.

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 20

"This Be The Verse" by Philip Larkin has been quoted a couple of times in comics - once that I can remember in Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie's The Wicked + The Divine, and once in Multiversity. And now, the famous line has at least been paraphrased by Young Justice in "Quiet Conversations," an episode that's almost entirely about the screwed up family dynamics driving about half of the show.

There are four stories that get some attention this week. Fatherbox is taking over Cyborg's body, and Black Lightning, Forager

Cyborg Gets Crucified in Dark Justice League Concept Art

Cyborg Gets Crucified in Dark Justice League Concept Art
Justice League production designer Patrick Tatopoulos has shared some more concept art of Ray Fisher's Cyborg. Tatopoulos has worked with Zack Snyder several times over the years and it is believed they will be working together again in the future. Both men have an attraction to the darker elements in their projects and it really looks like Cyborg was going to have a much larger part in the DC ensemble movie and that is was going to be a lot darker from what ended up on the big screen.

Patrick Tatopoulos' Cyborg concept art is something that he shared "just for fun." The Justice League character can be seen in mostly dark red and black with some religious undertones. It's a rather haunting image and it seems like it would fit in perfectly with the artwork of the band Tool. It actually looks similar to one of their album
