The Color Purple is one of the most influential movies of all time. The character selection was wonderful and I don't think that there could have been a better choice for Celie than Whoopi Goldberg. She portrayed both the naivety and the "ugliness" of Celie. Danny Glover was the best choice, in my opinion, for Mr.____/Albert. All of the supporting cast members were wonderful and I don't think that the movie would have been the same if Spielberg would have used different characters. I think that everyone especially African Americans should take the time to both read the book and watch the movie. I think that The Color Purple is a wonderful part of African American history and should be read for generations to come.
