Storyline

Roman emperor Caligula leaves the last days of glory amidst orgies of food and sex. During a show by two nude slaves, the emperor is particularly attracted to one of them, Lysia, ignoring that she had been planted close to him with orders to murder him. Only, the young man makes her feel for him, passion and motherly love, and she'll protect him rather then fulfill her mission. Drama ensues. Written by Artemis-9

"Caligula's Slaves" is a movie that won't satisfy anyone: for those looking for exploitation, it's too tame; for those looking for eroticism, it's too sporadic; for those looking for a genuine historical epic, it's too cheap; and for those looking simply for a good movie of any type, it's too incoherent, incompetent and pseudo-arty. Rarely does a scene have any connection with the preceding or the following one. I'll only give it credit for three things: in Robert Gligorov, they found a Caligula with enough of a physical resemblance to Malcolm McDowell to create some sort of link with the notorious Tinto Brass film; Sandra Venturini is gorgeous; and after a couple of unsuccessful attempts the film finally gives us a fairly exciting girlfight near the end. Other than that, the Brass version is better and God knows that was no masterpiece to begin with. 0.5 out of 4 stars.
