Hong Kong Playboys is a film that is colorful and iconic. The late great Fu Sheng shines very bright in his only comedic role. He was headed for greatness.

Hong Kong Playboys is a zany, wacky, colorful and hilarious film from the Shaw Brothers Studio. Visually, the film has a great deal of iconic value.Filmed in 1983, it shows the colorfulness of the early 1980's. The flashiness of film shows with its fancy cars such as the Lamborghini Countach, electronics and clothing styles of the era. Fu Sheng really shined bright in his only non Kung-Fu comedic role as Yan Quan Sheng('Romantic Sheng'), the spoiled, idle, yet fun loving son of a wealthy Hong Kong socialite who flashes his riches and woos the ladies. His character's mixture of arrogant charisma and 'little boy' innocence is superbly balanced.

The supporting cast: Patrick Tse, Cherie Chung, Nat Chan, Shih Kien and Winnie Chin Wai-Yee all brought great and amazing energy. After cementing his status as a Kung-Fu film legend, Fu Sheng proved that he did have the talent to be a major star in the comedy genre as the film proved to be a big box-office success.

Fu Sheng was eager to branch out into other mainstream genres and prove that he was a genuine superstar of the local film industry in Hong Kong. Fu Sheng's death in a car accident on July 7, 1983 shortly after the film's release left his potential unfilled. Fu Sheng's performance truly showed that he was heading towards legendary greatness in the Hong Kong film industry and beyond.

Hong Kong Playboys is a must-see film and I recommend it to fans of Shaw Brothers films and fans of the late great Fu Sheng.
