This Spanish/Italian/US co-production results to be a simple , predictable and good clean fun

Decent swashbuckler with Sean Flynn as the son of legendary pirate against an evil governor and bloody enemies . As Errol's 23-year-old son plays the son of the role Flynn portrayed in ¨Captain Blood¨ film also starred by Olivia De Havilland , Basil Rathbone , being directed by Michael Curtiz . An agreeable as well as fun Sean Flynn swashbuckler about the son of the famous Pirate , Peter Blood, an Irish physician well played by Errol Flynn in 1935 , perhaps the best pirate film of all time . This classic story of romantic adventure by Tulio Demichelli , filmed in Spain , comes to life enriched by Eastmancolor photography and adapted rightly to the screen , being freely based on Rafael Sabatini's novel . Here's an entertaining pirate yarn with fine characterizations and with some good action . It begins in Port Royal , Jamaica . There the son of a notorious pirate named Robert Blood (Sean Flynn who provides youthful enthusiasm) aboard a ship and he sets sail for the seven seas . Then he is placed on the path of righteousness by his love for a beautiful young woman . But the ship is attacked by a pirate called Malagon (Jose Nieto) and takes over the Spanish boat . As the son of the notorious father meets up with his father's enemies on the high seas . As there takes place the Most Daring Adventure That Ever Swept Across the Seven Seas . Robert Blood is forced to become a pirate , teaming up with a group of rebels but paying more attention to proper young lady , a gorgeous maid (19-year-old Alessandra Panaro as the charming damsel in distress) . Robert frees a bunch of prisoners and makes them his crew , as his aides Oliver Orguelthorpe (Roberto Camardiel) , Kirby (Barta Barri) Matt (Xan das Bolas) and Timothy Thomas (Fernando Sancho , Spag Western usual) , among others . As a corsair captain and a crew of escaped convicts plundering for loot , revenge and righting wrings becomes his life . They are forced into piracy but ultimately earn pardon for their swashbuckling ways . As Robert and his crew sailing recklessly through dangerous waters , from the Caribbean islands along Atlantic Ocean today he still lives in hundreds of legends . Robert encounters dangerous situations while trying to retrieve his mother (Ann Todd who sparkles as the lad's mummy), and freeing slaves ; as he attacks Port Royal , where is the residence of the tyrannical governor general (Jose Maria Caffarel) . At the end takes place a huge earthquake and tsunami on the island , destroying Port Royal . In fact , Port Royal was a popular homeport in which many of the crews turned pirate and used the city as their main base during the 17th century against the Spanish treasure fleets . Pirates from around the world congregated at Port Royal, coming from waters as far away as Madagascar. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 1692 and a subsequent tsunami, and fires. Severe hurricanes have regularly damaged it .

Amusing pirate movie , plenty of action , thrills , colorful cinematography , realistic miniature work , luxurious costumes , impressive score ; all meld together under Demichelli's right direction . Although the story has been told before , tight filmmaking and nice acting win out . Combination of overwhelming battle ships , sword-play and full of villainy , romance , swashbuckler and heroism . Exciting script by Casey Robinson who also penned the previous classic picture . The picture is fast-moving , exciting and thrilling right up to the almost balletic climatic confrontation at an inn between Sean Flynn and Jose Nieto . Enough budgeted film by Benito Perojo , using appropriate ship shots and miniature sets when possible . Amusing acting by Sean Flynn as a son of famous pirate who uses all kind of shrewdness in order to penetrate a well-defended stronghold on Port Royal . There appears the gorgeous Alessandra Panaro as a hot-tempered moll who swoons over Sean ; furthermore , an enjoyable support cast plenty of Spanish secondaries such as Jose Nieto , Carlos Casaravilla , Barta Barri , Jose Maria Caffarel , Alvaro De Luna , Antonio Casas , Xan Das Bolas , Rafael Bardem and several others .

Producer Benito Perojo and Harry Joe Brown took advantage of the unused as well as left sets from other A-movies by scripting and shooting a hastily assembled attractive picture . This is a good-natured Eastmancolor and Cinemascope romp with glamorous cinematography from Antonio L Ballesteros and Alejandro Ulloa ; in addition an evocative musical score by Gregorio Garcia Segura , including a catching leitmotif . The motion picture was professionally directed by Tulio Demichelli , a craftsman who had already filmed other adventures . The Argentinian , nationalized Spanish writer/filmmaker Tulio Demicheli so consistently mixed the good with the mediocre that it became quite impossible to know what to expect from him next . As Demicheli had a long , prolific career , working from the 40s , he directed all kind of genres such as drama as ¨Herida Luminosa¨ , Thriller as ¨Ricco¨ , adventures as ¨Son of Captain Blood¨, ¨First adventure¨ , Spy sub-genre as ¨¨Il Nostro Agente a Casablanca¨, ¨Dirty game in Panama¨ , ¨Misión Lisboa¨ , Giallo as ¨Coartada en Disco Rojo or Two faces or fear¨ , Horror as ¨Monstruos De Terror or Assignment Terror" and he also directed Paella/Spaghetti Western as ¨Tequila¨, ¨Arriba Sabata¨ ¨Un Hombre , un Colt¨ and ¨Gunmen of Rio Bravo¨. His best movie was ¨Carmen of Ronda¨ with Sara Montiel .

Rating : 6 , acceptable pirate movie , entertaining stuff that provides audience amusement . Enjoyable production packs enough thrills , breathtaking sea battles , tempestuous romance and exciting situations for a good time . It will appeal to Eurotrash fans and pirate movies aficionados .
