Joe Daniels returns to Kansas to kill the murderer of his bother. Survivng the attempt on his life he arrives to find everyone hates him because his brother was bad. He knew his brother to be good and believes they are all mistaken. When he finally finds the killer he also now realizes the townspeople were right. His brother had gone bad and deserved to die.
Joe Daniels, wanted by the law in Kansas territory on an old and wrongful charge, risks arrest there in order to avenge his brother's death by an unknown assailant. His investigation reveals, much to his surprise, that his brother, part-owner of a successful business, had turned renegade. Local attorney Carruthers and other members of the town council offer Joe the job of town sheriff but he, considering his own legal status, turns them down. Meanwhile, an escaped convict kills a U.S. Marshal, who is carrying a pardon for Joe. A posse is formed and that action leads Joe to the discovery of his brother's killer.
