Storyline

A wise-cracking, uninhibited American girl, Susie Perkins (Joan Davis), is hired as a secretary/companion to Princess Shareen (Peggie Castle), a middle-east ruler of a small desert kingdom. Soon after their arrival, Susie learns that Shareen is in great danger, as a wicked sheik desires to get a hold of her oil-rich lands, and the Princess, also. After some wild adventures, aided by Majeed (Paul Marion), sweetheart of Shareen, Susie cleans up the situation, and is last seen joining the French Foreign Legion, which is 'for men only,' which suits Susie just fine. So is she. Written by Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>

Susie Perkins: You take foreigners in your legion?
Captain LeBlanc: [with heavy French accent] Certainly! That is why we are so called the Foreign Legion, the great legion of adventure. The finest men fight beneath our flag.
Susie Perkins: Good. I'll join. Where do I sign?
Captain LeBlanc: But mademoiselle, the Foreign Legion is for *men*!
Susie Perkins: So am I, brother! *So an I*! Fall in, boys, you've got yourselves a new yard bird.

Show Us Miss Davis Or Miss Castle!
19 June 2019 | by bobliptonSee all my reviews

Joan Davis is the traveling companion to princess Peggy Castle, rightful heir to a Middle Eastern Kingdom. There are the usual intrigues, and lots of good guys and bad guys who want to marry Miss Castle, but properly, that's only a sideshow to Joan's clowning. Unfortunately, it's in the hands of Edward Bernds, who learned everything about clowning from the Three Stooges, which in my book is almost nothing. Also, he doesn't bother to match shots and even the sound editing is inconsistent -- and Bernds spent fifteen years as a sound mixer and editor at Columbia.

Fortunately, Miss Davis' physical clowning and her puzzled delivery of her comic lines is excellent. Nevertheless, the movie is a disappointment, and would be her last appearance on the big screen. No worries! She would settle onto the small screen for I MARRIED JOAN, which made much better use of her talents than this mishmosh.
