For those who are unfamiliar with British currency of pre-1971: At c.52 minutes the taxi driver's fare was 14 shillings and sixpence. He was given a one pound note and told to keep the change. This was an extraordinarily generous tip. In decimal terms, the driver's fare was 72.5p and his "tip" was therefore 27.5p - and this explains his surprised reaction. See more
