Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Thriller ‘7500’ Sells to Amazon Studios

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Thriller ‘7500’ Sells to Amazon Studios
Amazon Studios has acquired global rights to Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s terrorist drama “7500.”

The deal, announced Monday at the Cannes Film Festival, excludes Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Universum will distribute the film in Germany.

In “7500,” Gordon-Levitt plays the co-pilot of a plane that has been hijacked by terrorists. The title references the code 7500, which a pilot uses in the event of a hijacking. The code is designed to silently alert air traffic controllers of the situation without tipping off the hijacker. German director Patrick Vollrath wrote the screenplay with Senad Halilbasic.

Gordon-Levitt came on board and Vollrath began shooting starting in the fall of 2017 in Cologne and Vienna. “7500” is Vollrath’s full-length feature debut following his 2015 Academy Award-nominated short, “Everything Will Be Okay.”

Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo of Augenschein Filmproduktion are producing, while Novotny’s Franz Novotny and Alexander Glehr are co-producers. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lindsay Williams of the

Netflix Again Blows Past HBO, Others as No. 1 Pick for ‘Best Original Programming,’ Survey Finds
Netflix continues to wear the crown as having the “best original programming” among premium TV and over-the-top subscription services, according to new research from Morgan Stanley.

About 40% of consumers surveyed said the streamer is the No. 1 outlet on this front, up from 39% last year. The next highest scoring service was HBO, at 11%, which was down from 14% on the firm’s 2018 survey. The research comes out a day after HBO aired the series finale of “Game of Thrones” — which has rekindled questions about how much momentum HBO may lose now that its most popular show in recent years has concluded.

On Morgan Stanley’s latest survey, after Netflix in second place was “don’t know” with 32% of responses, indicating that many consumers don’t have a strong opinion about which network or Ott service has the best originals.

About 6% of respondents said Hulu has the “best original programming” (up from 4% a year ago),

New Coke to Return This Summer to Make "Stranger Things 3" Even More ’80s

New Coke to Return This Summer to Make

In was announced Tuesday that Coca-Cola is partnering with Netflix to journey back to one of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history: the birth of New Coke.

The infamous soda sparked outcry when Coca-Cola changed its formula for Coke in the summer of 1985 in what is now considered the biggest marketing mistakes of all time, according to the AP. New Coke lasted just 79 days before the original recipe returned.

Per Coca-Cola: “In a first-of-its-kind partnership for Netflix, the ‘Stranger Things’ team collaborated with Coca-Cola to immerse viewers in 1980s nostalgia. Executives from Netflix visited the Coca-Cola archives in Atlanta last year to study New Coke packaging, memorabilia,

‘Big Bang Theory’ Series Finale Is Now Season’s Most-Watched Show, Not Counting Sports

‘Big Bang Theory’ Series Finale Is Now Season’s Most-Watched Show, Not Counting Sports
The Big Bang Theory” went out with a, well, a pretty big bang for CBS last week, and three days of delayed viewing only saw the ratings for the May 16 series finale increase.

The series capper for Leonard, Sheldon and Penny drew 23.44 million viewers, according to Nielsen’s live-plus-three ratings, which factors in three days of delayed viewing. That makes “The Big Bang Theory” finale the most-watched non-sports program of the 2018-19 season on any network or streaming platform. The 23.44 million is only for the May 16 broadcast and does not include Monday’s encore run of the finale.

The 23.44 million improves upon the 18 million viewers that the May 16 series finale drew in the overnight ratings.

‘Catch-22’ Star Daniel David Stewart Explains ‘The Syndicate’ and Why Milo Is the Real Villain (Video)

(Warning: This post contains mild spoilers for Hulu’s “Catch-22”)

Milo Minderbinder is arguably the most famous fictional war profiteer in literature, all thanks to the care and detail that Joseph Heller put into crafting the character for his World War II novel, “Catch-22” — and his sketchy enterprise, “The Syndicate.”

Daniel David Stewart plays Milo on Hulu’s adaptation of the book, which stars Christopher Abbott as Yossarian, Kyle Chandler as Colonel Cathcart and George Clooney as Scheisskopf. The limited series faithfully delves into how the Minderbinder character is a satire of the modern businessman and capitalism, obsessed with expanding the mess operations in the camp.

Yeah, this “Syndicate” thing gets a little complicated to everyone — even in-universe — so TheWrap sat down with Stewart to ask him to explain himself. Or at least explain Milo.

A Friend With Benefits: The Power of the Fourth Wall in ‘Fleabag’ Season 2
This post contains spoilers for all of Fleabag Season Two, now available on Amazon Prime Video.

When the first season of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag debuted back in 2016, it seemed to fit into a long tradition of TV shows where characters break the fourth wall and address the audience directly. This has been going on since the medium’s early days in sitcoms like The Jack Benny Program, and has continued over the decades in series as wildly different from one another as Saved By the Bell and House of Cards.

TV Review: Ava DuVernay’s ‘When They See Us’

TV Review: Ava DuVernay’s ‘When They See Us’
Television, lately, has had a particular fixation on the closed-ended crime story — narrative limited series that follow famous cases, using familiar figures to fulfill our desire for catharsis through justice. That makes “When They See Us,” Ava DuVernay’s new limited series about the 1989 “Central Park Five” incident and its legal repercussions, part of a wave that includes shows as disparate as “Dirty John,” “Escape at Dannemora,” and “The Act,” all of which thrive on the promise of eventual vindication.

Yet this show stands apart. “When They See Us” can’t be included in the true-crime genre, in part because
