Rian Johnson has “all the freedom in the world” for his new Star Wars trilogy

While Lucasfilm has been garnering a bit of a reputation lately for rewarding Star Wars directors with their pink slips for their efforts, that hasn’t been the case with Star Wars: The Last Jedi helmer Rian Johnson.

Earlier this month it was announced that Johnson has been handed the keys to his very own Star Wars trilogy, separate from the main Skywalker saga, and while he’s only just in the very earliest stages of planning, the filmmaker has been chatting to IGN about the freedom Lucasfilm is affording him.

“Right now there’s all the freedom in the world,” said Johnson. “That’s the whole thing that’s exciting to me is let’s go some new places, let’s meet some new folks, let’s see what else is out there. Let’s have one story told over three films in this galaxy with no limitations. It’s pretty exciting.
