James Gunn comments on the Spider-Man situation, praises Tom Holland and director Jon Watts

James Gunn, director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, has commented on the situation regarding Spider-Man leaving the McU, offering praise for star Tom Holland and actor Jon Watts.

The situation between Sony and Disney over Spider-Man is certainly a messy one and, unfortunately, it means that the character is left outside the McU. Plenty of big names have given their thoughts on the subject and now Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has had his say.

Responding to a fan on social media (via ComicBook.com), the director said: “It’s two corporations working their shit out. I have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes. But speaking of that, the day I shot this scene was the day I introduced Tom Holland to Stan Lee for the first time. Tom and Spider-Man director Jon Watts are both class acts.”

Jon Favreau explains how Gwyneth Paltrow forgot about her appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Jon Favreau has explained one of the most amusing topics to stem from the Marvel Cinematic Universe – how Gwyneth Paltrow completely forgot about her appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The news came when Paltrow joined Favreau as a special guest on his cooking series The Chef Show, and began discussing her involvement in the McU.

Now, in a recent interview with Access, Favreau has given an explanation as to why Paltrow hilariously failed to recall her appearance in the first solo Spider-Man McU film.

“She is the most focused person you’ll ever meet, and the most talented actor you’ll ever work with.” Favreau revealed. “And it’s very in the moment and very authentic and emotional, her portrayal. And I think that’s part of why the McU has been so successful is she really grounded and anchored it with Robert.”

“But I know with Gwyneth, she also doesn

Marvel’s Kevin Feige on Spider-Man McU split: “It was never meant to last forever”

Marvel fans were left reeling this past week with the news that talks had broken down between Sony and Disney with regards to extending their partnership over the cinematic rights to Spider-Man – a deal which has seen the web-slinger rebooted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe to enormous success and culminating with Sony’s most successful movie ever Spider-Man: Far From Home.

While we cling on to some hope that a deal could still be reached (despite the studio blame game already beginning), Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has offered his first public comments on the situation during a chat with Deadline at the D23 Expo, saying that “it was never meant to last forever” and he is simply glad that they got to include the wall-crawler in their universe at all.

“I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy,” said Feige. “We got to make five films within the McU

Jon Favreau had more fun filming Spider-Man: Far From Home than any other movie

Jon Favreau, one of the stars of Spider-Man: Far From Home, says he had more fun acting in the film than in any other movie he has been in.

With all the drama surrounding Spider-Man’s apparent exit from the McU, it feels like a long time ago that Tom Holland and co were on our screens for Spider-Man: Far From Home. Jon Favreau returned for the picture as Happy Hogan and it sounds like he had a ball doing so.

Speaking about acting in other people’s movies as opposed to directing his own features, Favreau told the Hollywood Reporter: “Oh sure, I love doing that. And I learn because I get to be on other peoples’ sets. When I get to see the Russo brothers direct, it’s great. When I get to be on Jon Watts’ set for Spider-Man, I had more fun in his last Spider-Man

Jon Watts is not attached to direct the next Spider-Man movie

Following on from Spider-Man’s exit for now from the McU, it is now being reported that Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Far From Home, is not attached to direct the third movie in the series.

When news broke that the relationship between Disney and Sony had broken down, leaving Spider-Man shut out of the McU, it was thought that director of Far From Home Jon Watts would still be making the third movie for Sony.

However, Deadline is reporting that this isn’t necessarily the case. Watts might be in the director’s chair for the film but at this time, he is not attached to direct: “Sony is planning two more installments, though it is an open question whether those will include Jon Watts, director of the first two films guided creatively by Feige. Watts isn’t signed on for the next film and isn’t a certainty

Kevin Smith pleads with Sony to give Disney and Marvel what they want after Spider-Man split

Kevin Smith isn’t taking the news of Spider-Man’s apparent departure from the McU very well, pleading with Sony to make it right.

News has broken that Spider-Man’s future in the McU is in serious jeopardy as Marvel apparently wanted to renegotiate a few details and ensure Kevin Feige received the correct producer credits. Sony didn’t agree with Marvel’s stance and now Spidey will be going forward without Marvel.

There are a lot of fans left feeling disappointed as a result and one of the most vocal is comic book superfan, Kevin Smith. Taking to his Twitter feed, the director posted: “Just stop it! Please Sony Pictures – give Disney what they want and millions of us will keep giving you our money!”

Sony blames Disney for breakdown in Spider-Man negotiations

Yesterday brought us the rather disappointing news that negotiations have broken down between Sony and Disney over Marvel Studios’ continued involvement with Spider-Man, seemingly bringing to an end Tom Holland’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after five hugely successful appearances in Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Given how well received Holland’s wall-crawler has been (and how sketchy Sony has been with its previous handling of the property), fans were understandably upset with the news, and had no hesitation in taking to social media to make their feelings known. And, amid the backlash, Sony has released an official statement, in which the company seemingly puts the blame on Disney:

“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise,” reads the statement. “We are disappointed, but respect Disney

McU Spider-Man No More! Disney and Sony fail to reach new Spider-Man deal

Well, here’s the news that fans of the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man have been dreading… after steering the franchise to its highest-grossing instalment – and indeed, Sony’s biggest movie of all-time – with Spider-Man: Far From Home, Disney and Sony have failed to reach a deal to continue sharing the web-slinger and Marvel Studios will no longer have any involvement with future Spider-Man movies.

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was reportedly sidelined during a dispute between Disney and Sony, with Sony said to have turned down a deal which would have seen a 50/50 financing deal between the two studios. Sony is said to have wanted to continue with the terms of the current deal, with around 5% of the first dollar gross going to Marvel, and weren’t prepared to budge on negotiations.

As a result, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige will no longer be involved with future Spider-Man movies,

Spider-Man: Far From Home to be re-released with new footage

Sony Pictures will be re-releasing Spider-Man: Far From Home with four minutes of additional footage over Labor Day weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This version of Spider-Man: Far From Home will hit theatres on Thursday 29th August in the United States and Canada, as well as being available in IMAX and other large formats in select locations. This extended version will be four minutes longer than the theatrical cut due to the addition of a “never-before-seen action sequence.”

Although Sony has claimed it will be a brand-new action sequence, this could well be the dropped action scene set in the restaurant with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker wearing the Iron Spider suit that was shown in the trailer and multiple TV spots for the film.

This announcement comes quickly off the heels of Far From Home setting a brand new record of becoming the studio’s highest grossing release ever by hitting $1.109 billion,

Spider-Man: Far From Home becomes Sony’s highest-grossing movie ever

The Walt Disney Company has been dominating the box office this year, with five of the six movies to reach the $1 billion mark so far in 2019 coming from the Mouse House.

However, the other – Spider-Man: Far From Home – has now just set a brand new record for Sony Pictures, with the McU superhero sequel hitting $1.109 billion this past weekend to overtake Skyfall on $1.1 billion to become the studio’s highest-grossing release of all time.

Sony’s deal with Marvel Studios has certainly proved hugely beneficial for the studio, with 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home pulling close to $2 billion between them, and the latter no doubt enjoying a decent bump thanks to Disney and Marvel’s record-breaking Avengers: Endgame.

Bo Report: ‘Palm Beach’ squares off against ‘Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan’

‘Palm Beach.’

The head-to-head clash between Universal’s Palm Beach and Transmission Films’ Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan last weekend was far from ideal, but both films are positioned to have leggy runs thanks to word of mouth.

Rachel Ward’s Palm Beach opened in third spot behind the fourth weekend of Disney’s blockbuster The Lion King and the second lap of Universal’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

Scripted by Ward and Joanna Murray-Smith, the comedy-drama about a group of lifelong friends reuniting to celebrate a special birthday rang up $1.14 million on 250 locations and $1.23 million with previews.

Starring Bryan Brown, Sam Neill, Greta Scacchi, Richard E Grant, Jacqueline McKenzie, Claire van der Boom, Aaron Jeffrey, Heather Mitchell and Matilda Brown, the film opened 3 per cent ahead of Wayne Blair’s Top End Wedding, which finished with $5.2 million, and at the same level as Jeremy SimsLast Cab to Darwin,
