Four Friends Search for a Jazz Legend in La in 'Flock of Four' Trailer

"Does your mother know you're going down there on a Friday night?" Abramorama has released the first trailer for a hazy, indie drama titled Flock of Four, the feature directorial debut of director Gregory Caruso. We haven't heard much about this yet, but it actually seems like a nifty story for a film, and it looks pretty darn good. Set over the course of one night in 1959, the film follows four best friend teens who drive around Los Angeles searching for one of their music idols, legendary jazz musician Pope Dixon (a fictional character inspired by real musicians), as played by Reg E. Cathey (who passed away in February). The cast includes Braeden Lemasters, Uriah Shelton, Isaac Jay, and Dylan Riley Snyder as the friends, as well as Shane Harper, Coco Jones, and Nadji Jeter. I like the vintage look and feel to this. Take a look. Here's the first

‘God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness’ Film Review: Evangelical Franchise Serves 3rd Chapter With a Twist

No prophet could have predicted this outcome: “God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness,” the third chapter in the conservative Evangelical franchise known for its flabbergasting box office success — as well as for a combative stance seemingly designed to alienate the very non-believers it has sought to court — might have learned some Christian humility. Ok, not much humility. But on this map’s legend, an inch equals a mile. Catching up: in the first film, God is unequivocally proven to be Not Dead by conscientious Christian college student Josh (Shane Harper). Josh’s comically villainous atheist professor (Kevin Sorbo) learns this...

Film Review: ‘God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness’

  • Variety
Even in these polarizing times, it’s not every faith-based drama that gets a title as stark in its certainty as “God’s Not Dead.” That movie, a specialty hit in 2014, and its notably less successful sequel, “God’s Not Dead 2” (can we all agree that the incandescent nature of the Almighty doesn’t exactly find poetic expression in the title “God’s Not Dead 2”?), both had a disputatious chip on their shoulder. They were dramas about the victimization of contemporary Christians, and they were righteously gauzy and a tad hectoring. They mounted strenuous arguments against the arguments against faith.

The first sign that “God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness” has a more inviting tone, that it’s still preaching to the choir but in a kinder, gentler way, is that it isn’t called “God’s Not Dead 3: Do You Believe Us Yet?” The third film in the series is set,

Review: 'Dirty Dancing' Remake Is Less About Dancing, More About Singing -- Let's Break It Down!

Nobody should make a Dirty Dancing reboot…

But if you're going to, do it right.

Before you read any further, know that I really did try to give ABC's musical adaptation a chance, I did. There have been plenty of remakes of classical hits over the past few years -- some which were not so great, but others, like Grease: Live, that were wonderfully done and satisfied almost all of the viewers who tuned in. Of course, whenever you hear the news that one of your favorite movies of All Time is going to be remade, there's that moment of excitement -- "Yes! I am pumped for this!" -- followed by fear -- "Wait, what if this goes terribly wrong?"

Vestron Pictures

So after hearing who would take on the beloved roles of Patrick Swayze's Johnny Castle (newcomer Colt Prattes) and Jennifer Grey's Baby Houseman (Little Miss Sunshine herself, Abigail Breslin), I told

Remaking ‘Dirty Dancing’: How the TV Movie Turned into Summer Camp for the Cast

It’s the perfect summer day in western North Carolina -- sunny, breezy and warm with blues skies reflecting against the lake and stretching for miles over rolling green meadows -- and entering the grounds of the country club, a giant “Kellerman’s Lodge” sign greets you from the golf course. Couples in starched, pastel outfits sit in rocking chairs on the porch waiting on cues from the director, while a dance coach run moves on the practice log that hovers twelve inches above the ground. The set of ABC’s highly anticipated Dirty Dancing musical reimagining -- starring Little Miss Sunshine’s Abigail Breslin as Baby and Colt Prattes as Johnny Castle -- is the fancy summer camp experience of your dreams and the cast has bonded tightly just like kids at the end of the season.

It’s understandable how close they’ve come -- besides being stuck in a remote mountain paradise for weeks
