NBC Cancels ‘Abby’s,’ ‘The Enemy Within’ and ‘The Village’

NBC has cut a trio of freshman series.

“Abby’s,” “The Enemy Within” and “The Village” have all been canceled after only a single season on the network.

The former is multicamera comedy which starred Natalie Morales in the title role, as a woman who ran a bar in her backyard. The series, which has only aired seven episodes to date, actually utilized the gimmick of being shot outdoors instead of on a soundstage, the first to do so. Morales was the first-ever female Cuban lead in the format.

The regulars at Abby’s bar, and therefore on the show, included Neil Flynn, Jessica Chaffin, Kimia Behpoornia and Leonard Ouzts. The show came from Josh Malmuth, who was showrunner, and executive producers Michael Schur and David Miner. “Abby’s” was produced by Universal Television, Fremulon, Waila Inc. and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Future Of NBC’s ‘Abby’s, ‘A.P. Bio’ ‘The Enemy Within’ & ‘The Village’ “Still Under Discussion” With No Cancellations Made

The future of NBC’s Abby’s, A.P. Bio, The Enemy Within and The Village is “still under discussion” but Co-Chairmen George Cheeks and Paul Telegdy refused to hand out formal cancellations to the shows after they did not make NBC’s 2019/2020 schedule.

Speaking on NBC’s press Upfronts call, the pair said that no decision had been made on the shows, although sources suggest that it is unlikely that they will return to the network.

Telegdy said, “Anything that’s still on air is still under discussion, so no cancellations.”

Cheeks added, “The next season’s schedule is fluid, we want to give those shows a chance to fulfill their run and we’ll take another look at them then. Remember we program 52 weeks a year so there are a lot of slots.”

‘The Enemy Within’ Trailer: Morris Chestnut & Jennifer Carpenter Team To Catch A Killer

NBC has released the official trailer for The Enemy Within, its new midseason drama series, ahead of the February 25 premiere.

Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter) and Morris Chestnut star in the character-based psychological thriller which features Carpenter as Erica Shepherd, a brilliant former CIA operative now known as one of the most notorious traitors in recent American history, who is serving life in a Supermax prison. Against every fiber of his being, but with nowhere else to turn, FBI agent Will Keaton (Morris Chestnut) enlists Shepherd to help track down a fiercely dangerous and elusive criminal she knows all too well. While Shepherd and Keaton have different motivations for bringing the enemy to justice, they both know that to catch a spy… they must think like one.

Cast also includes Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman and Noah Mills.

‘The Good Fight’ Casts Tamberla Perry; Robert Gossett Joins ‘The Enemy Within’

Apb alumna Tamberla Perry has booked a key recurring role opposite Delroy Lindo on the upcoming third season of CBS All Access series The Good Fight. She’ll play Charlotte Hazlewood, a stylish and unpredictable judge who becomes involved with senior partner Adrian Boseman (Lindo). The Good Fight, a spinoff from CBS’ acclaimed drama The Good Wife, hails from The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King. It stars Christine Baranski, Cush Jumbo, Rose Leslie, Audra McDonald, Sarah Steele, Justin Bartha, Michael Boatman, Nyambi Nyambi and Delroy Lindo. Perry was a series regular in the role of Officer Tasha Goss on Fox’s Apb. She had a major recurring role on the fourth season of Bosch and recurs on the current season of ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder. Perry is repped by Stewart Talent and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.

NBC's 'Enemy Within' Taps 'Covert Affairs' Duo as Co-Showrunners (Exclusive)

NBC's midseason drama The Enemy Within is adding some firepower to its creative team.

Matt Corman and Chris Ord, who worked as co-showrunners on The Brave in 2017-18, will take the same position on the Universal TV drama starring Jennifer Carpenter. They'll serve as executive producers and co-showrunners alongside series creator Ken Woodruff.

Corman and Ord have a history with NBCUniversal. In addition to The Brave, the duo co-created Covert Affairs, which ran for five seasons on USA from 2010 to 2014. They were also EPs on The CW's Containment in the 2015-16 season.

‘The Brave’ Canceled After One Season at NBC
The Brave” has been canceled at NBC after just one season.

The military drama revolved around an elite team of military operatives who use advance surveillance techniques to help execute dangerous missions around the world to save innocent people from harm. The series starred Anne Heche, Mike Vogel, Tate Ellington, Demetrius Grosse, Natacha Karam, Noah Mills, Sofia Pernas, and Hadi Tabbal.

The series, one of three broadcast military dramas to debut during the 2017-2018 season, failed to make a splash in the ratings. It averaged a 0.9 rating in adults 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers in Live+Same Day after 13 episodes.

The series hailed from Keshet Studios and was created by executive producer Dean Georgaris. Matt Corman and Chris Ord served as showrunners and executive producers. Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott, and Rachel Kaplan also executive produce. “The Brave” was produced by Universal Television and Keshet Studios.

‘The Brave’ Canceled By NBC After One Season
The Brave has lowered its battle flag. NBC today canceled the freshman drama, one of three military-themed series introduced by the broadcast networks this season. Of them, only CBSSeal Team made it to a second season. The CW freshman Valor also has been canceled.

The Brave, which was relatively well received, landed the prime Monday 10 Pm slot. But it didn’t take full advantage of its sizable The Voice lead-in. After a modest ratings delivery in the fall, NBC opted not to give the military drama a back order beyond the original 13 episodes. The Brave’s season-now-series finale was on January 29. Its Season 1 average was a 1.6 adults 18-49 in Live+7.

Replicas helmer to direct Jackie Chan in Five Against a Bullet

Back in December it was announced that Jackie Chan had signed on to star in the action thriller Five Against a Bullet, and now comes word that Traitor and Replicas helmer Jeffrey Nachmanoff will be handling directing duties.

Five Against a Bullet has been in development for several years, with Bruce Willis attached to star at one point, and Joe Carnahan coming on board to direct in 2014. Carnahan recently exited the project, but remains credited as the screenwriter, although Matt Corman and Chris Ord (Covert Affairs) are currently penning a new draft.

The film will follow five world-weary bodyguards who are hired to protect a Mexican politician running for mayor after his father is murdered by a drug cartel. Previous reports have suggested that the project could potentially spawn a franchise following the team of bodyguards through their various assignments.
