Lauren Cohan is a British-American actress and model, best known for her role as Maggie Greene on The Walking Dead (2010) and recurring roles on The Vampire Diaries (2009), Supernatural (2005), and Chuck (2007). After her film debut on Casanova (2005) as Sister Beatrice, she starred in the sequel to Van Wilder: Party Liaison (2002), Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj (2006), as Charlotte Higginson. Her next role was in the 2007 film, Float (2008). In February 2010, she was cast in Death Race 2 (2010), with Sean Bean and Danny Trejo, and also the supernatural-horror film The Boy (2016), where Lauren played the main character, Greta Evans. In 2016, Cohan also appeared as Martha Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).
She was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and moved to the United Kingdom as a teen. She graduated from the University of Winchester / King Alfred's College where she studied Drama and English Literature, before touring with a theatre company she co-founded at the University. Cohan was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey on January 7, 1982, the daughter of an American father and an English mother. She also has Irish, Norwegian, and Scottish ancestry. Some sources incorrectly give her birthplace as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During her childhood, Cohan lived in Cherry Hill and, for one year, Georgia, before moving to England at age 13. When Cohan's mother remarried, she took her new husband's surname, Cohan, and converted to Judaism. Cohan also converted to Judaism at age five, and had a Bat Mitzvah ceremony. She has four younger siblings and one step-sister. She first appeared in the second season as a recurring character, but she was among the starring roles at the start of the third season. The drama is the highest rated series in cable television history. At the conclusion of the eight season, Cohan finished her contract on The Walking Dead as a series regular. It was later reported Cohan had not reached an agreement to sign on for season 9 as a main cast member due to a pay dispute, as she demanded an enhanced salary closer to her male co-stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus. AMC refused, and Cohan began making herself available for TV pilots. She booked the role of CIA operative Francesca "Frankie" Trowbridge in the ABC pilot Whiskey Cavalier, co-starring with Scott Foley. It was later confirmed she had reached an agreement to appear in season 9 under a limited capacity of 6 episodes in the first half of season 9.
