Cocked & Loaded: Twitter Takes Aim At Trump Phrase; Andrew Dice Clay Might Hold Clue

Cocked & Loaded: Twitter Takes Aim At Trump Phrase; Andrew Dice Clay Might Hold Clue
“Cocked and Loaded” is a) the name of Andrew Dice Clay’s breakthrough 1992 tour, the one for which he wore his soon-to-be-signature huge-collared leather jacket; b) a 2006 album by the industrial metal band Revolting Cocks; c) a malaprop for the actual military phrase “lock and load”; and d) the latest Twitter fodder all but gift-wrapped by President Donald Trump for pundits, comics and pickers of low-hanging social media fruit.

Or e) all of the above. Ding ding ding.

This morning, Trump used the bizarre, probably mistaken, certainly mangled, wording in a series of tweets that attempted to explain his last-second decision to halt an air strike against Iran in retaliation for shooting down one of our drones this week.

The four-tweet string, beginning with a swipe at Barack Obama (see the tweets below), read, in part: “On Monday [Iran] shot down an unmanned drone flying in International Waters. We were cocked

‘Game Of Thrones’ Trump Meme Triggers Show Fans Into Spluttering Outrage
President Donald Trump’s use of the fictional Game of Thrones Wall to push his agenda for a similar barrier along the Mexican border has found an audience. Unfortunately for him, it’s mostly the more liberal fan boys and girls, who point out that walls don’t work.

The Commander-in-Tweet re-pinned his Got “The Wall Is Coming” Instagram meme to the top of his Twitter account today, creating a fresh surge of outrage among show purists, many of them already frothing at the mouth from the original joke and the current government partial shutdown over the real-life wall.

Spoiler Alert On The Wall:

If you’re not a fan of Game of Thrones, you may not be aware of the Wall, a mystical barrier between North and South that stretches for 300 miles.

In the show, the barrier keeps so-called “Wildlings” who live in the North out of the Seven Kingdoms,

Louis Farrakhan Presence At Aretha Franklin Funeral Draws Strong Online Reactions

  • Deadline
Controversial Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan’s presence at Aretha Franklin’s funeral today drew strong reactions from the online community.

Farrakhan was given a seat of honor on the pulpit at the funeral, flanked by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, former President Bill Clinton, and MSNBC commentator and activist Al Sharpton. Farrakhan did not speak at the event.

The Franklin/Farrakhan relationship dates back several decades, according to a statement Farrakhan made after her death.

‘In 1972, when I was minister in New York City, Temple No 7, the police attacked our mosque. Within a few hours, Aretha Franklin came to the mosque, to my office, and said that she saw the news and came as quickly as she could to stand with us and offer us her support,’ Farrakhan wrote.

‘She asked me if Rev Jesse Jackson had been there to show support. I said, not yet. She said, he’ll be here within 48 hours.

Melania Trump Resurfaces in Brussels — but People Are Convinced It's Her Body Double Back in Action!

Is that Melania Trump? Rumors are swirling yet again that the First Lady has a body double, shortly after she resurfaced in Brussels earlier this week. Melania was seen stepping off the Air Force One with President Trump, however fans aren't convinced she's the real McCoy. "This new Melania double is weak sauce," one person wrote on July 10 via Twitter. "Watching the interview with Trump as he left the Us, Melania looks like a body double. It is not her," another chimed in. Fans have been concerned about Melania's whereabouts after she disappeared from public view following an announcement made by her staff on May 14, explaining that she had an embolisation procedure to treat a kidney condition. Samantha Bee Faces Backlash for Vulgar Ivanka Trump Slam
Samantha Bee is facing a social media storm following her vulgar slam against Ivanka Trump on Wednesday’s edition of “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee.”

In a segment about President Donald Trump’s immigration policy, Bee referred to Trump’s daughter, who is a White House adviser, as a “feckless c—” for posting a photo of herself with her young child after a week of headlines about federal authorities losing track of some 1,500 migrant children who were separated from their parents.

Bee’s remark is drawing comparisons to the racist slur posted by Roseanne Barr earlier this week, a move that prompted ABC to cancel Barr’s top-rated sitcom reboot of “Roseanne.” That was a shocking decision that Disney and ABC leaders attributed to the “repugnant” and racially charged nature of Barr’s statement likening former Obama administration adviser Valerie Jarrett to an ape.

The seven-minute “Full Frontal” segment examined

Harvey Weinstein Courtroom Sketches Draw Online Buzz

Harvey Weinstein Courtroom Sketches Draw Online Buzz
Gleeful and vengeful courtroom drama fans took to Twitter today to mock the unflattering sketches emerging from movie mogul Harvey Weinsten’s arraignment.

The New York Police Department does not release mug shots of anyone arrested in New York City, so the anti-Weinstein mob had to content itself with the courtroom sketches. Despite the serious nature of the charges, online wags and media had a field day commenting on the artist renderings from the courtroom drama.

Courtroom artist Jane Rosenberg has drawn Twitter criticism before. She drew a picture of New England quarterback Tom Brady in a 2015 courtroom case that also drew attacks, with some claiming the handsome Brady looked like a character from TV’s The Walking Dead in her renderings. Rosenberg later apologized.

Today’s courtroom comments on Harvey Weinstein’s pictures:

Wait that courtroom sketch was supposed to be Harvey Weinstein? I thought Dr. Dre really let himself go.

Harvey Weinstein Accusers Asia Argento and Rose McGowan, Others React to His Arrest: ‘What Took You So Long?’
Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein was formally arrested Friday morning on suspicion of rape, a criminal sex act, sex abuse, and sexual misconduct. Weinstein’s victims, his former industry contemporaries, and media figures flooded social media to remark on the watershed moment for the Me Too movement.

Actress Asia Argento, who accused Weinstein of rape and was one of the first of more than 80 women to go public with her allegations, tweeted throughout the morning as Weinstein surrendered to police in New York City. “Glued to the screen,” she wrote as she live-tweeted his perp walk. “What took you so long Harvey?” she said.

Harvey Weinstein Arrest Reactions From Hollywood, Accusers: “What Took You So Long?”
Harvey Weinstein turned himself in today at New York’s Tribeca precinct near the home of his former The Weinstein Company and arrested on multiple sex crimes charges handed down by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

The news of Weinstein’s surrender, which was tipped Thursday, has been a moment of vindication and catharsis for the #MeToo movement and especially the more than 80 women who have come forward to accuse the Oscar-winning producer of alleged sexual harassment and abuse over the decades.

Here are reactions coming in already from Hollywood and beyond as the NYPD says Weinstein was formally arrested, processed and charged with rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women.

Keep refreshing for more:

‘It’s Like a Coup’: Critics Lash Out After Ivanka Trump Gets West Wing Office and Security Clearance
Critics are lashing out on Twitter after it was reported Monday that President Donald Trump‘s daughter Ivanka Trump was getting her own West Wing office, complete with a security clearance for classified information — but no official White House job.

Robert Reich, who served as former President Bill Clinton‘s secretary of labor, waded into the backlash early Tuesday morning, tweeting: “Ivanka into the White House? It’s like a coup, and the dictator’s family is moving into the palace as it prepares to the loot the country.”

Others cited Ivanka’s lack of political experience, potential conflicts of

All The Things Trump’s Education Secretary Pick Said in Senate Hearings That Drove the Internet Crazy

Late Tuesday night, the confirmation hearing for President-elect Donald Trump‘s Education Secretary nominee, Betsy DeVos, got underway after significant back-and-forth in the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

DeVos, the billionaire former chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, struggled through tough questioning by the committee’s Democratic members and gave responses that ignited Internet uproar over her readiness for the position as the nation’s top education policy-maker and policy-enforcer.

Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander, the committee’s Republican chairman, pushed the hearing to an atypical 5 p.m. start time, and allowed each member only one round of five-minute questions.

What’s Up Doc?: Pennebaker/Hegedus & Malick Voyage to the Top in November

It’s been a couple months since the last edition of What’s Up Doc? placed Michael Moore’s surprise world premiere of Where To Invade Next at the top of this list and in the meantime much shuffling has taken place and much time has been spent on various new endeavors (namely my Buffalo-based film series, Cultivate Cinema Circle). Finally taking its rightful place at the top, D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hagedus’ Unlocking the Cage is in the midst of being scored by composer James Lavino, according to Lavino’s own personal site. Though the project has been taking shape at its own leisurely pace, I’d expect to see the film making its festival debut in early 2016.

Right behind, the American direct cinema masters is a Texan soon to make his non-fiction debut with Voyage of Time. Just two weeks ago indieWIRE reported that Ennio Morricone, who scored

Parks and Recreation: Season Five”

The funniest show on network television. Seriously, it’s not even close. I love “Enlightened,” “Girls,” “Louie,” and even the FX bad boys of shows like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Legit” but there’s nothing left on network TV to compare to this brilliant program now that “30 Rock” is gone. There are good comedies,

Morton Downey Jr. Movie Directors Take to Reddit

Morton Downey Jr. Movie Directors Take to Reddit
Évocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie" co-directors Jeremy Newberger, Seth Kramer and Daniel A. Miller took to Reddit this afternoon to answer questions about the doc, which was released by Magnolia Pictures on June 7 and chronicles the rise and fall of the controversial TV tall show host. More than 6,500 Reddit users showed up for the Ama, reddit's Ask Me Anything platform, and many posed questions to the filmmakers. "Was he related at all to Robert Downey Jr. Or is the connection purely coincidental?" one fan asked. The directors joked that this was "perhaps the most-oft-asked question about Morton Downey Jr. of all time… we finally reveal: Morton Downey Jr. was Robert Downey Jr.'s father! Kidding. No relation." When I asked the filmmakers what Downey Jr. would have made of the movie, they said, "He would have loved the movie, but perhaps pretended he hated it." The filmmakers also suggested that Downey Jr.

Evocateur: The Morton Downey, Jr. Movie Movie Review
Title: Evocateur: The Morton Downey, Jr. Movie Directors: Seth Kramer, Daniel A. Miller and Jeremy Newberger Before reality television became a genre unto itself, before dubiously achieved demi-celebrity became an actual career goal for many, and before blowhard media personalities took as their pet lemmings a significant portion of the American electorate, there was Morton Downey, Jr., a foul-mouthed talk show host who, as the anti-Phil Donahue, blew cigarette smoke in guests’ faces and generally ranted and raved in a manner that now seems both like some overblown caricature of populist agitation and the cornerstone for a cable news empire of ever more emphatically delivered deceitful scare-mongering. Review: 'Evocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie' Charts the Rise and Fall of One of TV's Most Controversial Figures
When he was a teenager in Edison, N.J., Daniel Miller’s friends used to pile into cars and go to tapings of the incendiary “Morton Downey Jr. Show,” reporting back on developments “to our utter glee.” Miller never went himself, but he was a regular viewer of the seminal trash-tv talk show host and now he and friends Seth Kramer and Jeremy Newberger have directed “Evocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie,” which charts the stratospheric rise and precipitous fall of one of television’s most controversial, and possibly influential, figures. One of the more shocking things you learn -- or are reminded -- is that Downey was only on the air for about two years, 1987-89, during which he turned his studio into the intellectual equivalent of the Roman Colosseum.“That seems to be a common response,” Miller said. “But it seems that he tattooed himself on people’s brains.
