Javier Bardem Calls on World Leaders to Agree a Global Ocean Treaty

Earlier this week, Oscar-award-winning actor Javier Bardem was in Times Square to demand a “Global Ocean Treaty Now” as an electronic billboard displayed images of threatened marine life.

He then addressed delegates at the United Nations to urge governments to agree a strong Global Ocean Treaty that could help to protect at least 30% of the world’s seas by 2030. This is the third out of four meetings at the Un to negotiate a treaty that could set the frame for a legally-binding ‘Paris Agreement of the oceans’.

“Whatever happens during this conference will have a deep impact on the life of our oceans and on the future of humankind. Delegates must know that the world is watching as they negotiate towards a Global Oceans Treaty. We just can’t afford to get it wrong,” said Bardem.

The event at the Un started with a trailer of the documentary ‘Sanctuary’ by

Could 4 supporting women of ‘Big Little Lies’ sweep the Emmys in 2020 like ‘Game of Thrones’ just did?

Could 4 supporting women of ‘Big Little Lies’ sweep the Emmys in 2020 like ‘Game of Thrones’ just did?
Big Little Lies” dominated the Emmys in 2017, winning eight prizes including Best Limited Series and all three acting categories it was eligible for — for lead Nicole Kidman and supporting actors Laura Dern and Alexander Skarsgard. But because it returned for a second season it will be classified as a drama series at the 2020 awards. Will it do just as well there as it did in limited series races? I think it could potentially earn four nominations for Best Drama Supporting Actress just like “Thrones” did this year.

Two supporting women were nominated for “Lies” in 2017: Dern and Shailene Woodley. They could both make the cut for Drama Supporting Actress next year, especially since “Thrones” will be out of the way, opening those four nomination slots back up. Meryl Streep could earn a nom too because, well, she’s Meryl Streep. And Zoe Kravitz could benefit from her expanded role in season two,

Zoë Kravitz's '00s Throwback With Britney Spears Proves She Witnessed History in the Making

Here lies what remains of the internet, broken on Aug. 5 by Zoë Kravitz. The Big Little Lies actress took a moment on Monday to share an "important" throwback with Britney Spears. If the quintessentially '00s decor (read: beaded curtain) looks familiar, it's because it was taken when Zoë, then just a preteen, was visiting Britney on the set of her Oops! . . . I Did It Again album cover shoot.

Though the pop star has yet to react to the post, several other celebrities have commented, including Zoë's costar Shailene Woodley, who wrote, "So important." Lenny Kravitz, meanwhile, commented, "Extremely!" In fact, around this time last year, Zoë shared another photo from that same iconic day, but of her dad and Britney. Her caption for that photo also stated, "This is important." She's not wrong!

Shailene Woodley Sails To The Sargasso Sea With Greenpeace

Today, Greenpeace launches an expedition to the Sargasso Sea, a unique region in the North Atlantic Ocean, to study the impact of plastics and microplastics on marine life, and to document the importance of this unique ecosystem for protection under a new Global Ocean Treaty that is being negotiated at the Un.

The Greenpeace ship Esperanza departs from Penno’s Wharf in Bermuda and will sail upon the Sargasso Sea over the course of nearly three weeks.

“The world’s only borderless sea, the Sargasso has been a source of mystery and myth, from the lost kingdom of Atlantis to the Bermuda Triangle,” says Greenpeace Oceans Director, John Hocevar.

“Today, the Sargasso Sea continues to challenge us with questions that could affect us all. Is our reliance on fossil fuels and throwaway plastics transforming this vital sea turtle nursery area into a death trap? We hope our findings from this

Wait, There’s…More? ‘Big Little Lies’ Author Liane Moriarty Has Spinoff in Mind

Wait, There’s…More? ‘Big Little Lies’ Author Liane Moriarty Has Spinoff in Mind
Just when you thought it was over, “Big Little Lies” writer Liane Moriarty already has an idea for a spinoff story. The author originally penned the HBO series’ source novel, and contributed to scripts for its recently wrapped — not to mention controversially received, both at home and behind the camera — second season. Which was supposed to be curtains on this limited-turned-drama series.

Speaking to Variety earlier this summer at the “Big Little Lies” season two premiere, Moriarty said, “The only thing I had sometimes thought, even before any of this had happened, was maybe jumping ahead to when the children are in high school — years ahead. So, that’s a possibility, but not for years to come. I feel like I would need a break, too, before I did that.”

The children include traumatized Amabella Klein, daughter of Renata (played by Laura Dern in the series); precocious Ziggy, son of

39% of ‘Big Little Lies’ 2 fans say the finale’s courtroom face-off between Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep was the highlight [Poll Results]

Nothing like dueling Oscar champs to liven up a climatic episode that left TV critics otherwise underwhelmed by the not-very-compelling conclusion to the second season of HBO’s 2017 limited series “Big Little Lies,” which claimed 13 Emmys its first time around. While Nicole Kidman‘s Celeste was finally able to verbally punch back against her late husband’s mother, Mary Louise (Meryl Streep), whose sneering self-righteous quest to gain guardianship of her traumatized twin grandsons begins to melt just like the Wicked Witch of the West when forced to face her own maternal sins.

Neither of these ladies need more trophies on their shelves — Kidman won an Emmy for her much more demanding and emotionally draining performance on the first season and Streep has plenty trinkets to dust already. But the whole enterprise seems built to simply allow her worshipers to adore the Mighty Meryl on the small screen. Then again,

‘Big Little Lies’ Actress Says Meryl Streep Pushed Back on Director Notes, Causing Minor Tension

‘Big Little Lies’ Actress Says Meryl Streep Pushed Back on Director Notes, Causing Minor Tension
Big Little Lies” Season 2 came to an end with a finale that mostly disappointed television critics, leaving many wondering whether or not a follow-up run of the Emmy-winning HBO series was worth it. IndieWire reported in early July that the production of “Big Little Lies” Season 2 was rife with tension as creative control was taken away from hired director Andrea Arnold and given back to the first season’s helmer Jean-Marc Vallée, but apparently that was not the only tension during the making of the season.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, actress Poorna Jagannathan comments on the rumors surrounding the troubled production of “Big Little Lies” Season 2. Jagannathan, an HBO veteran having starred on “The Night Of,” appeared in several episodes as the lawyer of Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman). The actress said she felt “saddened” by what happened to Arnold, but she said she did not see any tension

Big Little Lies: Here's What Happens to the Monterey Five in the Tense Season 2 Finale

Big Little Lies: Here's What Happens to the Monterey Five in the Tense Season 2 Finale
Big Little Lies closed out its controversial second season not so much with a bang than with a whimper. Despite the promise of storylines about a potential drowning, revelations about the mysterious death of Perry's brother, and Ed cheating on Madeline, the HBO drama chose to tie things up neatly and quietly in the Sunday night finale, rather than giving audiences any shocks or thrills.

Although we would've loved a good twist here or there, at least the core group of women we've come to know and love - Renata (Laura Dern), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) - make it out of the season alive, no matter how hard Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) tried to tear them apart. Curious about everyone's fate in the season finale? Press play on the season two soundtrack as you read up on what happened to the Monterey Five,

‘Big Little Lies’ 2: Did it end with a bang or a bust of a flat finale? What do critics and you the viewers say? [Poll]

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the finale of season 2 of HBO’s “Big Little Lies.” Although, according to some TV critics, it might have been the creative masterminds behind this unnecessary second helping — especially creator and writer David E. Kelley — who spoiled everything for the-then limited series that won six Emmys for its 2017 original incarnation.

For a while in early episodes, everyone seemed dazzled enough by the addition of Meryl Streep as a rodent-toothed Javert of a grieving mother-in-law who was determined to make the lives of the women of privilege known as the Monterey Five suffer for the loss of her twisted abusive son. Laura Dern‘s anger over Renata’s diminished financial status, thanks to her wreckless spouse, set off enough thespian fireworks to distract from the show’s meandering plotting.

See Will Meryl Streep be the 34th actor to win an Emmy for a David E. Kelley show?

Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and More Stars Reflect on Big Little Lies Season 2 Finale

HBO aired Big Little Lies' season two finale on Sunday, and some of the cast members couldn't help but feel a little sentimental over the closing of this chapter.  Nicole Kidman, for instance, took to Instagram to share a few photos of herself hugging her co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep. She also shared a picture of the trio smiling alongside their fellow castmates Zoë Kravitz, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern on the show's set. "What a journey to have been on!" the Celeste Wright character captioned the sweet snapshots. "Thank you to all of you for watching, and everything you have given this show and more!
