How Exactly Is Joe Amabile Still on Dancing With the Stars?

How Exactly Is Joe Amabile Still on Dancing With the Stars?
For every Omg elimination on Dancing With the Stars there's been a head-scratcher of an advancement. In season 27, and we mean this with respect and love, that head-scratcher is The Bachelorette's Joe Amabile. Yes, Grocery Store Joe is still in the competition. How? Joe and partner Jenna Johnson have had some very low scores. Like, bottom of the pack low. His first week, the two received a 14. A 17 followed, then a couple of 18s…they didn't crack the 20s until week six, Halloween Night, when they received a 22 for their Argentine tango to "El Tango de Roxanne" by José Feliciano, Ewan McGregor and Jacek Koman. Week seven, which was Country Night, saw the couple get a 21 for their tango. It was...

Sound the alarm; it’s the Pointless Film Alert!

We’ve been down this road many times and probably too often than we should have. There’s this young guy and he’s a good kid in general but, wouldn’t you know it, he made a few wrong life decisions and here he is in jail. Along comes a career criminal and his gang to use the kid to get what they want (freedom, money, the usual) and maybe a friendship is made and broken along the way.

Jr busts out of prison with Brendan Lynch, Australia’s most notorious criminal, and joins Lynch’s gang for a gold heist that soon pits the two men against one another.

The grittiness of prison life is shown from the very start of Julius Avery’s debut feature film Son of a Gun. We’re introduced to 19 year old Jr (Thwaites) as he enters a maximum security prison in Australia. We don’t know what he has done but an allegiance is quickly formed with notorious criminal Brendan Lynch (McGregor). After being released from prison, Jr helps break Brendan out and chaos ensues.

Son of a Gun is visually stunning to watch. Cinematographer Nigel Bluck has outdone himself by showing the desolate areas of Australia,

Son Of A Gun Review

Director: Julius Avery

Cast: Brenton Thwaites, Ewan McGregor, Alicia Vikander, Matt Nable, Damon Herriman, Jacek Koman

Certificate: 15

Running Time: 108 minutes

Synopsis: Jr (Thwaites), finds himself in need of protection during his 6 month stint in prison. He finds it in the form of notorious bankrobber Brendan (McGregor). However, everything comes at a price, and this may be something Jr is paying back for a long time.

Son Of A Gun is one of those rare films that embraces its clichés and runs with them. It’s not an entirely predictable affair, but you’ll certainly recognise the tropes that are embedded within this crime/heist flick with familiar ingredients, but unique presentation.

Starting as a prison drama, Thwaites gives us the typical fish out of water. Serving a measly 6 months, he soon finds himself attracting the attention of the local prison rapists. Thankfully, he’s made friendships with the prison’s most dangerous and respected man,

Gunsmoke: Avery’s Able-bodied Debut Dulled by Familiar Tropes

The less familiar you are with the dramatic crime genre, perhaps the more engaged you’ll be with Julius Avery’s serviceable directorial debut, Son of a Gun. Nearly every narrative twist and character tic feels lifted from another film, so much so that one would readily believe this to be a direct remake of something, replete with a chess allegory that seems perfectly banal. Yet, Avery’s film is not a direct remake, but rather a mosaic of genre film tropes, which would have been made all the more compelling if it had managed to present vigorously arresting characters. Yet the three main miscreants are merely the types of vagabonds that litter these terrains, negating the passionate bonds we’re supposed to believe whirls them into such dramatic, dire scenarios.

Jr (Brenton Thwaites) is a 19 year old criminal sentenced to

Julius Avery's fired-up on the run Son Of A Gun stars Ewan McGregor, Brenton Thwaites and Alicia Vikander with Nash Edgerton, Matt Nable, Eddie Baroo, Jacek Koman, Tom Budge, Damon Herriman and Johnny Boxer forming a remarkable ensemble.

At the Bowery Hotel, during my conversation with the director, a long line of fathers-in-crime came to mind: James Caan in Michael Mann's Thief, Billy Wilder's Double Indemnity, Jack Nicholson in Roman Polanski's Chinatown, Alain Delon in Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samouraï and Le Cercle Rouge. David Mackenzie's Starred Up with Jack O'Connell and Ben Mendelsohn carry on familial ties.

Entertainment One has released the first Son of a Gun clip. The Australian thriller follows a young man (Brenton Thwaites) who becomes the apprentice of a calculating crime boss (Ewan McGregor). McGregor is more intimidating than I expected. Alicia Vikander, Jacek Koman, Matt Nable, and Tom Budge also star in the feature directorial debut of Julius Avery. There is no U.S. release date yet, but Son of a Gun opens October 14 in Australia. Watch the Son of a Gun clip after the break. Two Left Feet: How “El Tango de Roxanne” Represents Everything Wrong with Baz Luhrmann

Moulin Rouge! is a mixed bag. It’s an idea that looks good on paper, but looks horrendous in execution. It’s a film where it should have the ability to make all the right emotional pivots, but succumbs to an ostentation that exists in its final product, making this a hallmark for director Baz Lurhmann’s career. I appreciate him, in an odd way, for injecting a very strange version of romance in his films, one that, in Moulin Rouge!, is wonderfully cynical and melancholy. In almost all of his work, his maximalism overshadows some of the most interesting aspects of the films (the sole exception being Strictly Ballroom, his first feature): the post-modern comments on capitalism in William Shakespeare’s Romeo+ Juliet, the inherent frivolity of “freedom, beauty, truth, and love” in Moulin Rouge!, and the hollow decadence of the parties in The Great Gatsby. But everything

First Son Of A Gun Images and Poster Featuring Ewan McGregor and Brenton Thwaites in the Aussie Crime Thriller

Just ahead of its debut as the Cinefest Oz's opener, the first Son of a Gun images have landed online. Julius Avery's directorial debut stars Brenton Thwaites (The Giver) as Jr, a young man who becomes a protégé of Australia's most notorious criminal Brendan Lynch (Ewan McGregor). "Locked up for a minor crime, Jr quickly learns the harsh realities of prison life. There is no survival guide. Keep your head down, do your time, get out. Protection – if you can get it – is paramount." These images don't look like they show much of the lockup, but I'm still intrigued by the premise, and hopefully we'll get to see the film in the U.S. soon. Hit the jump to check out the Son of a Gun images and poster. The film also stars Alicia Vikander, Jacek Koman, Matt Nable, and Tom Budge. Son of a Gun opens in Australia in October,
