‘Avengers: Endgame’ Box Office Earns Robert Downey Jr. Additional $55 Million Payday
Avengers: Endgame” has earned $2.7 billion at the worldwide box office to become the second highest grossing movie ever released after James Cameron’s “Avatar.” The massive financial gross is a huge victory for Disney and Marvel Studios, but it’s also a humungous win for leading Marvel Cinematic Universe star Robert Downey Jr. A new report from Forbes breaking down Marvel salaries reveals that Downey Jr. has earned a whopping $75 million from “Endgame” alone.

Downey Jr. made an upfront salary of $20 million for reprising his role of Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel blockbuster. The salary makes him the highest-paid actor in “Endgame,” ahead of the $15 million earned by co-stars Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Evans. But Downey Jr.’s huge riches come more from his 8% back-end deal than it does from his starting salary. Forbes reports “Endgame” has made $700 million in profit from its box office run so far,

10 Films to See in June

After an incredible start to the summer season last month, June is a bit lighter for acclaimed and/or promising releases, but there’s still a handful of worthwhile options. While we can’t muster up much excitement for the fourth installment of an animated franchise and our writers were mixed on some recent festival favorites finally arriving, we have a pared-down list of ten recommendations to seek out.

10. The Edge of Democracy (Petra Costa; June 19)

The first film I saw at Sundance Film Festival this year was Petra Costa’s intimate look at Brazil’s fraught political landscape, and it made quite an impression. Giovanni Marchini Camia said in our review, “The Brazilian filmmaker Petra Costa belongs to the many who fear that Jair Bolsonaro’s election as President of Brazil represents the beginning of the end for the country’s democracy, three short decades after the fall of

Robert Downey Jr.’s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle reportedly undergoes major reshoots

Back in October of last year it was announced by Universal Pictures that the Robert Downey Jr.-led fantasy adventure The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle had been pushed back from its original April 2019 release date some nine months to January 17th 2020.

At the time, no reason for the delay was given, but now The Hollywood Reporter has offered some insight, with the trade revealing that the project has undergone major reshoots, with the studio bringing in Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) to oversee changes to director Stephen Gaghan’s (Syriana) original cut.

Apparently, it had become clear to the studio that the movie needed some surgery, and that elements were not clicking – specifically Dolittle’s interaction with the CGI animals, which is of course a pretty major element given that it’s a movie about a guy who talks to animals.

As such,

TV Review: ‘Chambers’

  • Variety
“Chambers,” Netflix’s new horror series, doesn’t have much going for it — it’s a grody, nasty piece of work, a story that would at least be endurable if it were the under-ninety-minute movie it seems to want to be. But it does boast the casting of both Tony Goldwyn (in his first post-”Scandal” role) and Uma Thurman, two stars that might not have signed on to a version of this story that didn’t have the patina of prestige that comes with an overlong season on streaming. Too bad for them: They’re stranded in a story that goes nowhere fast, reliant on cheap scares with nothing behind them.

The story is frustrating in part because it seems to be saying something at its outset. Sasha (Sivan Alyra Rose) is a pleasantly typical American girl — dutiful but free-spirited in predictable proportion — before she suffers cardiac arrest and receives a transplanted heart,

Robert Downey Jr.’s ‘Doctor Dolittle’ Movie Undergoes Major Surgery, Extensive Reshoots

Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Dolittle movie has already seen its release date pushed nine months, and now we know why -- it was in desperate need of surgery. Universal and producers Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Susan Downey saw an early cut of the big-budget movie and decided to bring in Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) and Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) to help director Stephen Gaghan save the patient, so to speak. To recap, The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle finds a live-action Downey playing the unconventional doctor who can speak to CG animals. Rex Harrison

Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Dolittle Recruits Ninja Turtles Director for Reshoots
Robert Downey Jr.'s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle brought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle director Jonathan Liebesman on board to handle some reshoots. The movie has been pushed back a few times now and was originally set to come out this month. However, there have been some changes behind-the-scenes in order to get the look and feel just right. Liebesman was brought on board, but he worked closely with original director Stephen Gaghan, who was on set the whole time during the 21 days of additional shooting.

The Lego Batman movie director Chris McKay had previously come on set to help out on The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, which is a live-action/CGI hybrid. Sources close to the project say the studio and producers Susan Downey, Joe Roth, and Jeff Kirschenbaum, knew last fall there were some pretty substantial changes that had to be made. With that being said, reshoots are
