The Vanishing $200 Million Blockbuster

Around the turn of the century, there was a magic number at the box office: $100 million. Any movie crossing that mark domestically was a hit; anything falling too far short (except indie and art house releases) was, if not quite a flop, at least a disappointment.

I remember the palpable sense of relief Paramount felt in 2001 when the much-troubled Lara Croft: Tomb Raider made it to $131 million in North America (a fraction less than it earned internationally). That was enough to confirm Angelina Jolie as an unequaled and inimitable star — and also for the studio to ...

Captain Marvel’s Gemma Chan Isn’t The First Actor To Play Two Different McU Roles

While we expected a more recognizable franchise to help kick off Phase 4 of the McU next year (alongside the standalone Black Widow) film, it looks like Marvel Studios is doubling down on The Eternals, which is set to build upon the cosmic side of the series. So far, we don’t know all that much about the upcoming project – plot details are being kept tightly under wraps – but Kevin Feige himself seems excited to have the opportunity to get moviegoers hyped about a relatively unknown group of characters.

At last month’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel pulled back the curtain on the film’s talented cast, which includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Lia McHugh and Don Lee. Recently, however, we heard reports that Gemma Chan was looking to join the roster, too, and some of you might remember her appearance in Captain Marvel,

It Chapter Two International TV Trailer Teases Iconic Paul Bunyan Attack

A brand new Korean TV trailer for It Chapter Two has surfaced online. We're about a month out from round two with Pennywise and The Losers Club, which means we're going to be bombarded with TV spots, images, interviews and everything in between. While not every shred of that information is going to be worth covering, this particular bit of footage has some merit to it, as it teases a faithful adaptation of one of the most insane scenes from Stephen King's original novel.

The teaser takes a lot of the footage we've seen in the previous two trailers and reorganizes it into a thrilling, concise and creepy 30-second tease of what's to come. There are brief blink-and-you'll-miss-it new moments in there. The most significant of these moments has to do with the character of Richie, who has an encounter with a large Paul Bunyan statue. Angelina Jolie Discusses Why the World Needs More "Wicked Women"

  • Popsugar
Angelina Jolie has been praised for her humanitarian work as much as she has for her acting, and now the 44-year-old is hoping the example she's setting isn't lost on her three daughters: Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and Vivienne, 11. The actress is featured in Elle's September issue, and she penned an essay about the harsh labels women are often given and the future lessons she'd like for her daughters to learn from her. "I often tell my daughters that the most important thing they can do is to develop their minds," she said. "You can always put on a pretty dress, but it doesn't matter what you wear on the outside if your mind isn't strong. There is nothing more attractive - you might even say enchanting - than a woman with an independent will and her own opinions."

"You can always put on a pretty dress, but it doesn't matter what

Marvel’s Eternals adds Gemma Chan and Barry Keoghan

Having officially announced the project at Comic-Con last month, Marvel Studios has now made another two additions to the cast of its cosmic Phase Four superhero blockbuster Eternals in Gemma Chan (Captain Marvel) and Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk).

Chan appeared in this year’s Captain Marvel, portraying the Starforce member Minn-Erva, but its unclear at this point whether she will be reprising that role, or starring as a completely new character (something that would see the actress joining a very elite club of people who have played more than one role in the McU).

Eternals is being directed by Chloe Zhao (The Rider) and features a cast that includes Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) as Thena, Richard Madden (Bodyguard) as Ikarus, Don Lee (Train to Busan) as Gilgamesh, Salma Hayek (The Hitman’s Bodyguard) as Ajak, Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead) as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry (Child’s Play) as Phastos, Lia McHugh
