Mike Flanagan Says The Haunting Of Bly Manor Will Be "Much Scarier" Than The Haunting Of Hill House

Director Mike Flanagan, the talent behind Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House is hard at work developing the second season of the anthology series, The Haunting of Bly Manor.

The next season is inspired by Henry James’ 1898 novel, The Turn of the Screw. It tells the story of a governess, who will be played by Victoria Pedretti, “hired to look after a pair of siblings. However, several ghosts around their manor house exhibit a supernatural hold over the children.”

According to Flanagan, this new series is going to be “much scarier than season one.” Which is exciting to hear because The Haunting of Hill House was pretty terrifying! While talking to Birth.Movies.Death., he said:

“We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season, so it very much is a whole new deal. It’s a cool way to

‘Haunting of Bly Manor’ Will Be ‘Much Scarier’ Than ‘Hill House,’ Creator Mike Flanagan Says
If you thought the Red Room was Peak Horror TV, then you’ve got another thing coming, because “The Haunting of Hill House” creator Mike Flanagan says he thinks “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” the second chapter in his Netflix anthology series, is “much scarier” than the first.

“We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season, so it very much is a whole new deal,” Flanagan told BirthMoviesDeath.com in an interview published Monday. “It’s a cool way to expand on some of the things I loved about Season 1, but within the framework of a new story, without having to be restrained by the decisions we made last time. For Henry James fans, it’s going to be pretty wild, and for people who aren’t familiar with his work, it’s going to be unbelievably scary. I already

‘Jett’: How a Twisty Finale Is Both a Shocking End and a Perfect Beginning

‘Jett’: How a Twisty Finale Is Both a Shocking End and a Perfect Beginning
[Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers for “Jett” Season 1, including the ending.]

One of the joys of “Jett” is watching its title character think five steps ahead of anyone else in the room. Even in conversation, the audience can see her look past whoever she’s speaking to, plotting out all her possible moves.

So it’s a bit surprising when “Jett” ends its first season with Carla Gugino looking directly at the camera, as Jett wordlessly works through how to deal with the recent kidnapping of her daughter. For writer/director Sebastian Gutierrez, that last look — echoing the final moments of the show’s first episode — was the only way he wanted the nine-episode season to draw to a close.

“Jett is nothing if not practical. And tactical. It’s always interesting to have someone who is so good at planning contingencies and potential scenarios be put in situations where at some point, that will all go out the window,” Gutierrez said via email.

Damon Lindelof Is Open to ‘Watchmen’ Film Cast Appearing in His HBO Adaptation – But in Different Roles
Although Zack Snyder’s 2009 film adaptation of “Watchmen” has no connection to Damon Lindelof’s upcoming TV version for HBO, that doesn’t mean those actors are off-limits.

Snyder’s film, which is more of a straight re-telling of Alan Moore’s acclaimed work, features a cast that includes Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Carla Gugino, Billy Crudup and Jackie Earl Haley. Lindelof, who is spearheading the upcoming adaptation for HBO, told TheWrap that he’s open to casting them, just in different roles.

“Maybe. Again, I don’t want to be cutesy about it. Our ‘Watchmen,’ with two notable exceptions, is trying to introduce new characters as opposed to dwelling on characters from the classic. But never say never.” Those two exceptions: Jeremy Irons portrays an older version of Ozymandias/Adrien Veidt (played by Goode in the film) and Doctor Manhattan (Crudup) appears to be a factor.

With Netflix continuing to churn out more and more original content, it’s no surprise to see that the streaming giant amassed a whopping 117 Emmy nominations this year, up slightly from 112 last year. However, seven of your favorite Netflix shows were snubbed by the TV academy this year, including former Emmy contenders and several new offerings. See the list below:

The Most Underrated TV Shows You’ll Be Glad You Watched – IndieWire Critics Survey

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday.

This week’s question: If you could pick one show – old or current – that you could champion/discuss more, but haven’t for whatever reason, what would it be? Why?

Ben Travers (@BenTTravers), IndieWire

Tuesday’s Emmy nominations make the answer much simpler than I would’ve hoped: “Better Things.” Pamela Adlon’s excellent FX comedy is made with such a potent combination of artistry and heart. Each piece is carefully crafted, from Adlon’s sweeping direction to the intimate vignette storytelling to the sparkling soundtrack to each individual performance and more. There are so many layers here, sliding in so smoothly one on top of the other, you don’t realize just how rich the personalities, story arcs, and overall experience is until you spend time with the series. While never a ratings juggernaut,

Another Haunting Of Hill House Star Returning For The New Season

Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House was one of the most talked-about television shows of last year, and less than four months after the series premiered the streaming giant announced a second season. Other than the expected news that creator Mike Flanagan will once again be overseeing the latest batch of episodes, not a lot is known about The Haunting of Bly Manor. Exclusive: Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, the duo behind The Haunting of Hill House, are expanding their portfolio at Netflix. It stems from the multi-year TV deal Netflix signed with the pair and their Intrepid Pictures earlier this year.

The seven-episode Midnight Mass follows an isolated island community that experiences miraculous events — and frightening omens — after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest. Flanagan will direct and serve as an executive producer alongside Macy. The project has no relation to the Midnight, Mass Vertigo comics.
