With that in mind, we take a look back over an already remarkable career and name five of Julianne Moore’s very best on-screen performances.

ABC Orders Cobie Smulders-Led ‘Stumptown’ Adaptation to Series

  • Variety
ABC has ordered the drama based on the graphic novel series “Stumptown” to series, marking the network’s first series pick up for the 2019-2020 season.

The now untitled project, formerly known as “Stumptown,” follows Dex Parios (Cobie Smulders), described as a strong, assertive, and sharp-witted army veteran with a complicated love life, gambling debt, and a brother to take care of in Portland, Oregon. Her military intelligence skills make her a great P.I., but her unapologetic style puts her in the firing line of hardcore criminals and not quite in alliance with the police.

The series also stars Tantoo Cardinal as Sue Lynn Blackbird, Cole Sibus as Ansel Parios, Adrian Martinez as Tookie, Camryn Manheim as Lieutenant Cosgrove, and Michael Ealy as Det. Miles Hoffman.

Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth, and Justin Greenwood, respectively the author and illustrators of the graphic novel series, will executive produce with Jason Richman

From ‘Batwoman’ to ‘Evil,’ a Look at Pilot Season’s Buzziest Projects

  • Variety
With the WGA-Ata war fully raging, diversity discussions at the forefront of the industry and numerous new rivals entering the original-content game, there is arguably more pressure than ever on the broadcast networks to make the right call when it comes to pilot pickups.

Here’s what Variety’s insiders are saying about this season’s offerings.

ABC

On the comedy front, three female-led pilots look to charge ahead at ABC.

An untitled Hannah Simone project has enjoyed support within ABC from the start. Simone’s “Greatest American Hero” pilot at ABC last year was ultimately passed over, but she still has many supporters at the network.

Another hot prospect comes from writer Jessica Gao, fresh off an Emmy win for her work on “Rick and Morty.” Hopes for the untitled pilot are bolstered not only by Gao’s recent success but also by Brian Grazer serving as exec producer.

Nicole Kidman is reuniting with “Big Little Lies” showrunner David E. Kelley and producer Bruna Papandrea for one more adaptation of a Liane Moriarty novel, this time at Hulu.

Pilots 2019: More Very Early Buzz On What’s Hot

  • Deadline
It’s late April. Normally at this time TV business’ attention is focused almost squarely on the broadcast pilot season as it is heading into its final stages — network pilot screenings followed by new series pickups. But this is not a normal time. With the WGA-Ata standoff completely dominating the Hollywood conversation following the mass firing of agents by writers, it has been hard for anyone to focus on pilot season. Here is what I hear is hot at the networks. Keep in mind that the information is still incomplete as not all pilots have been delivered to the networks. We will have a fuller picture at the end of next week when most of the pilots will have screened.

Pi drama Bad Alibi (fka Stumptown) starring Cobie Smulders and the untitled Hank Steinberg /50 Cent legal drama continue to be getting strong buzz, with ABC authorizing all

How Broadcast Networks Fight Streamers to Cast Top Stars in Their Pilots

  • Variety
How Broadcast Networks Fight Streamers to Cast Top Stars in Their Pilots
In a matter of weeks, the broadcast networks will go through the annual process of ordering pilots to series for the fall season.

The casts of this year’s pilot crop feature many broadcast mainstays and strong performers, but also illustrate that cable networks and streaming platforms are now the go-to destination for marquee stars looking to make a splash in TV.

That’s not to say that there are no big names working on broadcast pilots this year. Some notable stars in the arena this year include Heather Graham, Edie Falco, Michael Sheen and Kal Penn.

According to David Stapf, president of CBS Television Studios, getting big stars for broadcast pilots is no harder than it has been.

“I don’t know that it’s any more difficult if you have good material,” Stapf told Variety. “Case in point: We had a great script from Paul Attanasio about the

Pilots 2019: Very, Very Early Buzz Edition

  • Deadline
It’s April, and Deadline is launching its annual Pilot Panic feature where we track buzz on the broadcast pilots as they go through production and and testing. We are late out of the gate this year, but that’s understandable — it’s been an extraordinary time of upheaval in the business, with 13,000 writers on Friday told by the WGA to fire their agents after the guild and the Ata could not reach a new franchise agreement.

The 2019 broadcast pilot season has been completely overshadowed by the WGA-ata battle. Still, handicapping broadcast pilots is a Deadline tradition, so let’s get to it. As usual, the first story is very sketchy and preliminary as many pilots are still in production and very few have been delivered. Here is a list of some pilots that are getting strong early buzz based on a combination of auspices, script, table read, taping or dailies.

Netflix has really stepped up the horror game over the past few years producing such neo hits as Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House and Suzanne Bier's adaptation of Josh Mallerman's Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock. And today we have the trailer and poster for their new possible hit The Silence starring Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka. The film comes to us from director John R. Leonetti, who is perhaps best known for helming the original Annabelle flick along with the PG-13 teen horror movie Wish Upon starring Joey King, and let's not let him forget, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation starring Robin Shou and James Remar.

The Silence begins when the world is attacked by a flock of terrifying creatures who hunt their human prey by sound, which sounds like, you know, bats to me. Anyhow, when these bat monsters attack the world, 16-year
