Never thought I would recommend an Errol Flynn film BUT I never thought he could ACT either. Wrong on both counts and the proof is in this film! Grabs you at the beginning and doesn't let go. It's about World War 2 but they don't SHOW any really graphic violence. You read it on the faces of the actors. Including Mr. Flynn. How could he go back to Swashbuckler tripe after he has proven he can really "get it done" acting-wise. I dunno. L-L

20. Westward the Women (1951)

A trail guide escorts a group of women from Chicago to California to marry men that have recently began settling there.

Director: William A. Wellman | Stars: Robert Taylor, Denise Darcel, Hope Emerson, John McIntire

Votes: 2,602

One of the very best films you'll see. Ahead of it's time as far as "womens' rights". In the old American west a bunch of women travel by wagon train to get Husbands in the blossoming state of California. Sounds like a "barefoot & pregnant" movie but in the end it shows that women can do ANYTHING a man can do and do it with their characters & morals intact. Showing it takes a "woman" to make a real home and truly "settle" an entire state. Gritty, funny, poignant & greatly acted by an ensemble cast. (also with Robert Taylor) I've watching it so many times I've lost count. Own it if you can get it.

Van Heflin, Joanne Woodward. Sweet funny romantic entertaining, intelligent and enjoyable. A man returns to his small home town after the American civil war as a Minister to start a church. Before he left he led a wild life and with no training or know how and no one letting him forget his previous wild lifestyle, everything is a challenge. A well made & well acted film "safe" for the entire family.

A self-help advocate struggles to put his dysfunctional family in its place.

Votes: 2,552 | Gross: $0.91M

Funny (and often sweet) film about the ultimate dysfunctional family. in between a lot of laughs you'll find a lot of truth. NO graphic sex or excessive swearing or violence BUT still a lot of themes that are not for the youngest of viewers. but (unfortunately) many kids will know about these things from real life. I also guarantee you will laugh.

25. Risen (2016)

Non-depressing fast paced mystery thriller asking the question "What really happen to the dead body of Jesus?" as seen through the eyes of the Roman Tribune who is Pilot's right hand man and given the task to find the body before it rots beyond being recognizable.. Blending Bible Story with Historical Fiction, films don't get much better than this one.
