Time travel is the concept of moving between different points in time in a manner analogous to moving between different points in space, generally using a theoretical invention known as a "time machine".
Let's face it, the time traveling concept was always an preoccupation in literature and filmography. You can't find a person who didn't think about time traveling or building a time travel machine. That's why movies with those themes were and always will be interesting and amusing to watch.
