75 min | Drama, Romance

Two couples' romances are fancifully intertwined.

Director: Alfred Hitchcock | Stars: Virginia Valli, Carmelita Geraghty, Miles Mander, John Stuart

Votes: 2,013

The version I saw had a nice musical soundtrack behind it, and I enjoyed it. It was very interesting to see how the great director started! It was released in the US in 1926, and at that time Hitchcock was 27. (watched on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/movie/the-pleasure-garden)

4. The Mountain Eagle (1926)

"When interviewed by François Truffaut, Alfred Hitchcock implied that he was not sorry there are no known surviving prints; he called the movie 'awful'." ~IMDb (For more trivia, see this page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0016127/trivia?ref_=tt_ql_2)

5. The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (1927)

A landlady suspects her new lodger is the madman killing women in London.

Director: Alfred Hitchcock | Stars: June Tripp, Ivor Novello, Marie Ault, Arthur Chesney

Votes: 9,596

There was a nice soundtrack to the version I found. Having seen some of his later movies prior to this one, it's clear Hitchcock was developing his future style while making this film. It was the most enjoyable and exciting for me, so far.

6. The Ring (I) (1927)

Not Rated | 89 min | Drama, Romance, Sport

Two boxers compete for the love of a woman.

Director: Alfred Hitchcock | Stars: Carl Brisson, Lillian Hall-Davis, Ian Hunter, Forrester Harvey

Votes: 2,997

This has been the most difficult to watch, mostly because the version I watched had no soundtrack and was truly silent. The story didn't interest me much either, and I don't consider it a spectacular film. But I'm glad I've seen it.

Director: Alfred Hitchcock | Stars: Ivor Novello, Ben Webster, Norman McKinnel, Robin Irvine

I found this movie under its original title, "Downhill", at a website I hadn't heard of before. (I was referred there on the movie's IMDb page!) It was worth seeing, but I wouldn't watch it again.

This story seemed so simple, I was very surprised to discover how entertaining it was! Unexpectedly, this was a romantic comedy. But even without intrigue, mystery or suspense, it kept my attention until the end, and actually provided a few laughs! The soundtrack did not match the plot, but I was grateful that one existed. Although it's only a minute long this film does "document" some of film's first spoken words; but it's not what I would think of now as a "documentary". It's fun to watch, though!
