I've seen some of these before of course, but I've decided to try to see everything listed in his IMDb "Director" filmography. I got that list here: Alfred Hitchcock However, I've just found a much better list here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000033/filmoyear

1. Number 13 (1922)
The story was about low-income residents of a building, financed by The Peabody Trust, founded by American banker-philanthropist George Foster Peabody, to offer affordable housing to needy Londoners.
This was impossible to watch, and here's why: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0013444/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv
2. Always Tell Your Wife (1923)
20 min | Short, Comedy
Two couples, the Hawkes and the Chessons, engage in an affair.
I wasn't able to find this one either, but look at this page for an explanation: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0818899/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv
3. The Pleasure Garden (1925)
75 min | Drama, Romance
Two couples' romances are fancifully intertwined.
The version I saw had a nice musical soundtrack behind it, and I enjoyed it. It was very interesting to see how the great director started! It was released in the US in 1926, and at that time Hitchcock was 27. (watched on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/movie/the-pleasure-garden)
4. The Mountain Eagle (1926)
57 min | Romance, Thriller
In the Kentucky hills, a store keeper tries to win the love of an innocent schoolteacher. She runs away and seeks refuge with a hermit.
This one is not available to watch, either.
"When interviewed by François Truffaut, Alfred Hitchcock implied that he was not sorry there are no known surviving prints; he called the movie 'awful'." ~IMDb (For more trivia, see this page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0016127/trivia?ref_=tt_ql_2)
5. The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (1927)
Not Rated | 68 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery
A landlady suspects her new lodger is the madman killing women in London.
There was a nice soundtrack to the version I found. Having seen some of his later movies prior to this one, it's clear Hitchcock was developing his future style while making this film. It was the most enjoyable and exciting for me, so far.

6. The Ring (I) (1927)
Not Rated | 89 min | Drama, Romance, Sport
Two boxers compete for the love of a woman.
This has been the most difficult to watch, mostly because the version I watched had no soundtrack and was truly silent. The story didn't interest me much either, and I don't consider it a spectacular film. But I'm glad I've seen it.

7. When Boys Leave Home (1927)
Not Rated | 74 min | Adventure, Drama, Thriller
Public schoolboy Roddy Berwick is expelled from school when he takes the blame for a friend's charge and his life falls apart in a series of misadventures.
I found this movie under its original title, "Downhill", at a website I hadn't heard of before. (I was referred there on the movie's IMDb page!) It was worth seeing, but I wouldn't watch it again.
(watched at archive.org: (http://archive.org/details/Downhill_1927)
8. The Farmer's Wife (1928)
Not Rated | 129 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance
After his daughter weds, a middle-aged widower with a profitable farm decides to remarry, but finds choosing a suitable mate a problematic process.
This story seemed so simple, I was very surprised to discover how entertaining it was! Unexpectedly, this was a romantic comedy. But even without intrigue, mystery or suspense, it kept my attention until the end, and actually provided a few laughs! The soundtrack did not match the plot, but I was grateful that one existed. Although it's only a minute long this film does "document" some of film's first spoken words; but it's not what I would think of now as a "documentary". It's fun to watch, though!

I wasn't able to find a silent version, although both were released. I watched the "talkie" version. (Audio dialogue does not start until eight minutes into the film!) Favorite quote: "You know uh, detectives in glass houses shouldn't wave clues."
