Crash & Burn..

TV Series that started off being very good to excellent and finished their runs in FIERY RUINS. How did the producers/creators/writers allow this to happen??

For whatever reason.. these series fell apart over the seasons until all that I was hoping for was for them to be put out of their misery (and me, mine).

Normally, I throw bad series on the trash heap of history with a quickness. But these series were once -- GOOD! After I've invested myself in the characters/story and have enjoyed what I've seen.. I remain a loyal viewer and hope for a turn-around -- which rarely ever (re:never) happens.

By the time they are canceled, I'm relieved!

1. Mad Men (2007–2015)

TV-14 | 47 min | Drama

A drama about one of New York's most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm's most mysterious but extremely talented ad executives, Donald Draper.

Stars: Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones

Votes: 195,930

Does anyone really give a *beep* about Don Draper anymore??

From an, almost brilliant, first 2-3 seasons to this.. the final few years have been a steady decent into an abysmal, obscure obscenity. Mathew Weiner's A.D.D. must be blackhole massive... so much so that his mind borders on schizophrenic.

Have rarely seen a series/character take so many absurd twists and turns... unless the real secret is that Draper is bi-polar. But the same should be said the the creator.

------------- the first 2-3 seasons I rate 8.5-9 the remaining... 6.0 (and that's generous)

2. Weeds (2005–2012)

TV-MA | 28 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama

When a suburban mother turns to dealing marijuana in order to maintain her privileged lifestyle after her husband dies, she finds out just how addicted her entire neighborhood already is.

Stars: Mary-Louise Parker, Hunter Parrish, Alexander Gould, Kevin Nealon

Votes: 100,421

Laugh Out Loud funny in the first two seasons!!

Spent the remainder of its life like a runaway train heading off a cliff!

I swear.. could it have gotten worse any faster?? Just a terrible series by the end, could barely stand to sit thru those final 23 mins eps.

------------- first 2 seasons = 8.0 seasons 3-5 = 6.0 remaining = 4.0

3. Big Love (2006–2011)

TV-MA | 60 min | Drama

A polygamist and his relationship with his three wives.

Stars: Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloë Sevigny, Ginnifer Goodwin

Votes: 19,658

What an unexpected and ridiculous fall from grace!!

How could a series that was sooo good for the first 2-3 just completely go down in flames in its final two seasons!?!!? The finale season is one of the worst series-ending seasons I've ever witnessed.

The stupidity in the writing over the last two seasons is just unbelievable.

--------------------- first 2-3 seasons = 8.0 remaining = 4.0

4. Dexter (2006–2013)

TV-MA | 53 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

By day, mild-mannered Dexter is a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. But at night, he is a serial killer who only targets other murderers.

Stars: Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, David Zayas, James Remar

Votes: 623,450

I'm really pissed about this one.. what a brilliant ride the first two season were!

And then.. after... season two --- you know what happened!! (But I won't say for those who don't.)

Season three was a real disappointment, but that could be expected after the brilliance of the first two seasons. "Dexter" rebounded in season four with the addition of the magnificent John Lithgow and then began a downward spiral into total destruction.

As I'm about to watch the finale episode at this writing... I'm clenching my teeth and hoping I can get through it!

There is only ONE way this series should end... if the creators do it -- it will be expected. If they don't do it --- they've pussied out!

----------------------- first 2 seasons = 9.5 season 4 = 8.0-8.5 season 3, 5, 6 = 6.0 season 7, 8 = 4.5-5.0

5. Entourage (2004–2011)

TV-MA | 28 min | Comedy, Drama

Film star Vince Chase navigates the vapid terrain of Los Angeles with a close circle of friends and his trusty agent.

Stars: Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara

Votes: 155,519

Loved the first 2-2.5 seasons.. a fun and enjoyable series that I looked forward to every week. It went quickly downhill from there. The final 3 seasons were utter garbage with the last season being a complete waste of time.

6. NYPD Blue (1993–2005)

TV-14 | 45 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

Detectives from NYPD's 15th Precinct investigate homicides within their precinct.

Stars: Dennis Franz, Jimmy Smits, Gordon Clapp, James McDaniel

Votes: 11,245

A great series for the first few years.. Franz's character ended up being a caricature by the final few seasons. Stayed on way too long. Was just a shell of its original self by the end.

7. True Blood (2008–2014)

TV-MA | 55 min | Drama, Fantasy, Mystery

Telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) encounters a strange new supernatural world when she meets the mysterious Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a southern Louisiana gentleman and vampire.

Stars: Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten

Votes: 224,570

Was never a great series... just a lot of fun... for the first 2 seasons. After that it began to plummet. Each season... it turned out that almost everyone in Bon Temps, LA was, in fact, a supernatural!

IMO, It's a train wreak.. I don't care what happens to these characters anymore.. I'm just watching it to see the final nail put into the coffin.

----------- first 2 seasons 7.5-8.0 remaining... 5.5-6.0

8. The Sopranos (1999–2007)

TV-MA | 55 min | Crime, Drama

New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano deals with personal and professional issues in his home and business life that affect his mental state, leading him to seek professional psychiatric counseling.

Stars: James Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco, Michael Imperioli

Votes: 278,810

A once great series that stayed around too long. Should've ended a season or two earlier, once the writers found themselves without anything interesting to add.

9. Heroes (II) (2006–2010)

TV-14 | 45 min | Drama, Fantasy, Sci-Fi

Common people discover that they have super powers. Their lives intertwine as a devastating event must be prevented.

Stars: Jack Coleman, Hayden Panettiere, Milo Ventimiglia, Masi Oka

Votes: 224,535

I have a love/hate relationship with "Heroes".. I loved the 1st season, hated everything that came after that!

Have rarely seen a show with such an interesting storyline and excellent first season IMPLODE so quickly to become such a piece of CRAP!

This series could have had endlessly great storylines/plots! But the producers screwed this up ROYALLY by not keeping a good writing team in place. This series went off the cliff EARLY in season 2 and just got worse from there.

Truthfully, I had no idea this show aired for 4 seasons!! I gave it up during the 2nd season -- which I think I completed, but not sure. It was so bad by that time... it was a complete waste of time.

10. American Horror Story (2011– )

TV-MA | 60 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

An anthology series centering on different characters and locations, including a house with a murderous past, an insane asylum, a witch coven, a freak show circus, a haunted hotel, a possessed farmhouse, a cult, the apocalypse, and a slasher summer camp.

Stars: Lady Gaga, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson

Votes: 265,790

Excellent/Very good first couple of seasons... lost a bit of its mojo by the end of the third. But excellent horror series are harder to find than Higgs Boson.. so I continued to watch.

"Coven" (3rd season) was weaker than the previous two... but "Freak Show" (4th season) was really weak and "Hotel" (5th season) has been pretty damn bad.
