Votes: 4,656

The best story ever told in a video game. An immersive world, great characters and character development; nothing has come close to providing the same level of entertainment I had when I played and completed this game for the first time. It was like watching a great movie from beginning to end.

2. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002 Video Game)

Stars: Ray Liotta, William Fichtner, Tom Sizemore, Dennis Hopper

Votes: 20,716

In my opinion, hands down, the best of the GTA series. Great characters, good story/missions, great soundtrack, and some good movie references.

3. Max Payne (2001 Video Game)

A troubled NYPD cop is framed for murder and finds himself being hunted by the police, the mob, and a ruthless corporation.

A dark and gritty tale. Playable film noir at its finest.

The brooding cop has left the DEA and returned to the NYPD. When his latest case ends up involving the thought-dead femme fatale Mona Sax, he finds that his journey through the night is far from over.

Stars: James McCaffrey, Wendy Hoopes, Jonathan Davis, Vince Viverito

Votes: 8,873

While it's not as memorable as the original, it's still worth playing for Max Payne fans.

5. Half-Life: Counter-Strike (2000 Video Game)

M | Action, Crime, Sci-Fi

A tactical FPS game, in which players assume the roles of members of combating teams of the governmental counter-terrorist forces, or various terrorist militants opposing them.

Director: Minh Le | Star: Jess Cliffe

Votes: 2,810

The game that consumed many hours of my life. A staple for LAN parties, and never ending multiplayer entertainment. It's the game that has provided my with enough rage and laughter to last a lifetime.

My claim to fame was a 3-in-1 awp kill on de_dust2 in 2001.

6. Team Fortress 2 (2007 Video Game)

M | Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi

Nine mercenaries. Two teams. Guns. And hats. Welcome to Team Fortress 2, where psychopaths fight each other with shotguns, rocket launchers, pistols, baseball bats, surgical equipment, laser guns, and wear fancy hats.

The most multiplayer fps fun I've had since Counter-Strike.

Dr. Gordon Freeman must fight his way out of a secret research facility after a teleportation experiment goes disastrously wrong.

Director: Randy Pitchford | Stars: Kathy Levin, Lani Minella, Brice Armstrong, Harry S. Robins

Votes: 8,185

The first fps that made me go "wow" from the first time I saw that train intro. It's the game that, in my eyes, redefined first person shooters.

8. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003 Video Game)

A young prince with expert fighting skills acquires the Dagger of Time, and unknowingly releases the powerful Sands of Time with it. Now he is trapped in a palace with sand creatures and must undo the unfortunate deed he has done.

Director: Patrice Désilets | Stars: Yuri Lowenthal, Joanna Wasick, Barry Dennen, William Frederick Knight

Votes: 4,252

I really enjoyed this game. Believe it or not I played this after I finished Crysis for the first time and actually had more fun playing this. Maybe graphics aren't everything? The characters, the story, the detailed environments, the boss fights, the puzzles - they all made for a fun gaming experience. This was the original Prince of Persia brought into 3D perfectly.

Remember to get the high resolution/widescreen texture pack to improve the in-game detail a bit.

I haven't played any of the sequels to Sands of Time, except for Prince of Persia (2008), which I thought was a load of crap.

9. Hitman: Blood Money (2006 Video Game)

M | Action, Adventure, Crime

A larger more powerful agency are systematically eliminating assassins in a series of hits, who are all from Agent 47's contract killing firm, The Internatonal Contract Agency (ICA).

Director: Rasmus Højengaard | Stars: David Andriole, David Bateson, Barbara Bernád, Brian Beacock

Votes: 4,678

The fourth game in the Hitman series. If you want to play a cold blooded stealth assassin then this is the game for you. It also has a good storyline to go along with it.

I recently finished Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and although the stealth mechanics and gadgets aren't as advanced as those in Splinter Cell, Hitman definitely outdoes it in the entertainment factor. I found Hitman to be more fun than CT, but both are still good games.

10. Super Meat Boy (2010 Video Game)

T | Action, Adventure, Comedy

Meat Boy goes to rescue his girlfriend Bandage Girl, who's been kidnapped by the evil Dr. Fetus.

Stars: Young Maylay, Faizon Love, Yolanda 'Yo-Yo' Whittaker, Clifton Powell

Votes: 31,616

My second favourite of the GTA series. In my opinion the story, characters and missions aren't as great as the ones in Vice City, however the gameplay mechanics were improved quite a lot. It's still a lot of fun.

12. The Witcher (2007 Video Game)

Stars: Larry B. Scott, Liana Young, Michael McConnohie, Jessica Straus

Votes: 2,247

I've never been a big fan of RPGs, mainly because I suck at them, but this is the one that I've enjoyed the most. Lots of fun times were had with friends at LANs doing runs from Act I to V in a single sitting.

14. Quake III: Arena (1999 Video Game)

M | Action, Sci-Fi

Quake III is a first-person shooter focusing exclusively on multiplayer arena fighting, adding an extensive customizability of player settings.

Stars: Richard Ridings, Frances White, Lewis Macleod, Karina Fernandez

Votes: 1,629

Another LAN staple. Multiplayer, finger twitching, gib splattering, death-match chaos.

There are also some great mods for this that I played more than the vanilla version. If you don't know them, then I'd say these are the best: CPMA Rocket Arena Instagib Proball (A lot of fun at LANs if you have at least 8 people).

CS and Q3A were my most played LAN games from 2000-2004.

15. Grand Theft Auto (1997 Video Game)

M | Action, Comedy, Crime

As a young street hustler you explore the free world of Liberty City while doing jobs and assignments.

The controversial game that made mindless violence, crime, and destruction a whole lot of fun.

Director: Ken Levine | Stars: Kemal Amarasingham, Laura Baldwin, Matt Boynton, Eric Brosius

Votes: 956

A great game that took a back seat to Half Life's limelight. It was first person sci-fi horror at its best. It's the game that you'd play in the dark with headphones up loud and enjoy getting the crap scared out of you.

It was quite a difficult and challenging game but an extremely rewarding experience.

17. Carmageddon (1997 Video Game)

M | Action, Crime, Sci-Fi

Drive through cities, mine and industrial areas collecting bonuses, damaging competitors' cars, or by running over pedestrians in Carmageddon.

Cunning Stunt Bonus!

M | Comedy

Director: Al Lowe

Votes: 139

The lovable sexual deviant Larry Laffer and his leisure suit make their debut appearance looking for love in this classic adventure game.

In the world of adventure games back in the day, Lucasarts and Sierra reigned supreme. I always preferred Sierra humour than Lucasarts and Leisure Suit Larry was one of my favourites.

19. Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel (1987 Video Game)

Adventure, Crime, Mystery

You control a regular police officer patrolling the city of Lytton, California who must perform his duties strictly by the book.

Director: Jim Walls

Votes: 85

Another great Sierra adventure game. What was great about this game was the way you had to follow real police procedures to succeed. If you didn't, your game would come to an abrubt, but often humorous, end... like shooting yourself in the foot in the station's locker room.

20. Wolfenstein 3D (1992 Video Game)

M | Action, Adventure, Comedy

In Castle Wolfenstein 3D you play an American P.O.W. trying desperately to escape from the Nazi prison Wolfenstein during World War II.

Director: John Romero

Votes: 1,666

ACHTUNG! Gun toting Nazis and hidden treasure rooms.

You were either a Doom kid or a Wolfenstein kid, I just happened to grow up playing Wolfentstein. Good times.

21. Prince of Persia (1989 Video Game)

E | Action, Adventure, Family

In ancient Persia, the sultan's vizier, Jaffar, seizes power. With his only obstacle to the throne being the sultan's daughter, he locks her up. In order to free her, you must escape dungeons, get to the palace tower and defeat Jaffar.

Directors: Jordan Mechner, Keisuke Yasaka

Votes: 984

The side scrolling platformer that drove you nuts trying to race against time through countless levels of a prison dungeon, jumping booby traps, drinking potions, and drawing your sword to fight turban-clad prison guards to save a princess.
