"Alles wegen des Hundes", which means basically "All because of the dog" is a German 11.5-minute live action short film from 2008, so this one will soon have its 10th anniversary. It is the first effort as writer and director by Joschka Laukeninks and sadly looking at how he delivered (or didn't deliver) in both fields, I am not surprised that he has not managed to make it in the filmmaking business in the 8 years since this came out. it is of course not a total failure, but this also has a lot to do with lead actress Xenia Assenza who plays her part well most of the time. Her looks clearly help matters, but the film as a whole just feels like a connection of hissy fits and the impact of the other actors is minimal, also in terms of the story. I never cared for her best friend, for her ex-boyfriend (why would you leave that chick anyway duh?) or for the dog referenced in the title, which was a very random and underwhelming aspect of the film, even if the last shot was fine. As a whole, not worth seeing sadly. I give it a thumbs-down.
