A reimagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about 20-something Angus "Mac" MacGyver, who creates the Department of External Services (DXS), a clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem-solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Joining his team on high-risk missions around the globe is maverick former CIA agent Jack Dalton; Patricia Thornton, an ex-field agent turned director of operations; and Riley Davis, an unpredictable computer hacker with a chip on her shoulder. At home, MacGyver is entertained by his ambitious roommate, Wilt Bozer. Under the aegis of the Department of External Services, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip. Many character names are borrowed from the original series, though only a few bare any resemblance to their original counterparts. Patricia Thornton - Peter Thornton (Mac's boss at Phoenix) Matty Webber - Matt Webber set-up Pete so Matt could take over Phoenix as Pete's successor Jack Dalton - Mac's childhood friend - great at getting himself (and Mac) INTO, rather than out of, trouble Wilt Bozer - brothers Milt and Wilt Bozer made a couple of minor appearances Nikki Carpenter - Mac's polar opposite fellow agent, though never really a love interet (likely introduced to be one, but never became one) Agent Bannister - old agent-buddiy of Mac's, married a communist spy Penny Parker - played by Terri Hatcher - aspiring actress Mac met in Europe, she obecame one of Mac's dearst friends The Colton Family - "Mama", Frank, Jesse, & Billy (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) - the new rendition of the Coltons may be the best character "update" in this show - honors the originals while fully embracing new versions of the characters Murdoc - What can you say about Murdoc? He is "not your normal professional killer". (The current rendition lacks the flair Michael Des Barres brought to the character.) See more
