Sounds far more interesting than it turns out

"Mörderischer Frieden" or "Snipers Valley" is a German (anti-)war movie from 2007, so this one has its 10th anniversary this year. The writer and director is Rudolf Schweiger and this is not only his first full feature film, but also his most recent filmmaking effort despite how much time has passed since then already. It runs for 1.5 hours and the most known cast member by today's standards is Max Riemelt. Big German film buffs may also have come across Taubman, Bormann, von Pufendorf and Zillmann in other projects. The film is set during the days of the Kosovo War, an event that was very significant, but did not really get too much attention in terms of consideration in movie making. This is why it is especially disappointing to have such a film here, but see how it turned out pretty mediocre. The potential assassin/victim story sounds interesting in theory and what they made of it is mostly a letdown. I must also say that at times the actors are weak too when it comes to their line delivery, which may also have to do with the dialogue writing though. The film titles, both English and German, sound more interesting too for sure than the overall outcome turned out in the end. It's not the only war film starring Riemelt as a soldier as there is Auslandseinsatz too and if you count him as a state-paid character (police officer for example), then there's even more. So yeah that is all I guess. These 1.5 hours are not a failure by any means, but it is also far away from the quality where it would to the subject justice. Unconvincing production values on many occasions. Don't watch.
