Inland Empire is a heroes journey: Nikki Grace, the greatest actress in the world, is hired to play the role of Susan Blue. She believes it is just another movie, but her Husband, Piotrek, has another motive- The story is cursed and Piotrek whose former wife (lost girl) fell victim to the curse (and the Phantom) is trapped and only Nikki Grace has the ability- the acting ability- to save her. Despite an eccentric and bumbling Director, not to mention dysfunctional crew, Nikki is able to find and eventually become her character. The key for Nikki is when her Australian and Dim co-star, Devon, despite Piotrek's threats, makes romantic advances that mirror her character Susan's own scripted adventures. When both her and her character become sexually involved, with co-star, Devon and his character, Billy, she finally has the Stanislawskian methodology to truly become her character. But once she does so, Nikki becomes lost in the life of her character (not to mention the psychological breakdown that her character must be going through living a life that is out of sequence because of the way movies are filmed). As she becomes more and more Susan Blue, she then progresses further becoming every incarnation of the character from the Polish Film "47" to the Radio Play "Axxon N". Meanwhile, Nikki is able to learn more and more about the Phantom and the curse. Piotrek plays Smithy, Susan's Husband, in order to monitor and assist Nikki's progress uncovering the curse. When the time is right, a doorway to where the Lost Girl is being held will open, and it becomes a race between Nikki and the Phantom as to who will get to her first.- Written by Kevin S
