an energetic, original, and mind blowing film

Unfortunately I missed the screening of Status Yo! in Washington DC in November of 2004. On a regular basis I always checked Amazon.de to find out if it was ever going to be released on DVD, luckily that time came in September of 2006. I am glad they decided to put this movie on DVD. Status Yo! is a unique perspective of the German Hip Hop culture that is often overlooked in Germany. there a few sub plots that surround the main plot around the film, which is 24 hours to pull off a hip hop show unlike any other in Berlin. Almost every character in the film has their own story, which somehow intertwine within the other characters. Berlin is one of my favorite cities in Germany and all throughout Europe, the scenes alone are worth the film. Never have I seen a movie come out of Germany that shows such an accurate portrayal of Berlin. Status Yo! left me with a feeling of nostalgia, amazement, and excitement. Status Yo! differs from most German films such as Good Bye Lenin and Run Lola Run in that the scenarios and plots are more different and accurately portrayed. I definitely recommend this film if you get the chance to watch it, unfortunately this movie is only PAL Region 2 encoded but if your DVD player is region free than I would definitely make the purchase, amazon.de is the only site that is currently shipping this DVD to America.
