A Good Representation of the 3 Kingdoms era

I've been a fan of the three kingdoms era ever since i watched the original TV series as a kid. Since then, I've played through enough hours of dynasty warriors and romance of the three kingdoms to familiarize myself with the whole plot line of the film. Red Cliff is based upon a battle that happened in the Three kingdoms era, in which Cao Cao (portrayed as the villain) and the Wei country try to conquer the other two countries: Wu, and Shu. This movie does not really ask for any knowledge of the book, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, since it already establishes what the basic motivations of the main characters are, so it'd be easier for western audiences to see this film. In fact, at times I even see similarities between this film and 300, in terms of the plot,although this one has a deeper story and 300 has greater special effects. However, if anyone plays Dynasty Warriors or has had any previous experience with the Three Kingdoms stories, this movie is a great watch. One will see the return of Zhou Yu, Zhuge Liang, Zhao Yun, and many other great characters in the book by Luo Guanzhong. The special effects are great, the characterization is decent, and it provides a good back story for a historical battle. Even the visuals are favorable with John Woo's experience, and the atmosphere is nicely set during the scenes. The acting is decent, with Tony Leung heading the cast. My only gripe would be that it was extremely boring in the middle, but the superb start and ending make up for it. In fact, I can't wait for part 2.
