In a time of video-game based cartoons, "Der Kleine Eisbär" (The Little
Polarbear) stands out as a pure and sweet movie for children which is, at
the same time, exciting and not at all wishy-washy.
The basis of the story is the small bear's relationship with another young
animal, a walrus. The two become close friends, to the chagrin of their
elders. The two societies do not mix (while it never directly says so, it
is, of course, known that polar bears prey on walruses). Therefore, the
elders decide to allow the two youngsters to continue to play in exchange
for a tithe of fish.
There is no violence in the film, and yet it raises thoughts and questions
about justice and tolerance of others. Also, the movie is based on one
story of many from a Dutch author, so it allows children to continue the
adventures of the little polar bear through the books.

This is a very fine movie for children.
No violence.
A few exciting scenes, bit breathtaking, but relief is quick to
follow.
This means that small children can watch it over and over again, with
great
pleasure.

Fine for the smallest of children, presumably the intended audience. Older
children and adults will find it too childish, too long, and not nearly as
well executed as, say, THE FOX AND THE HOUND or FINDING NEMO with which it
bears some similarities plot-wise. Interesting mix, near the end, of CGI
with traditional 2-D animation, particularly in a sequence involving a
marine life-devouring submarine, but not enough to sustain one's full
interest. It doesn't help that it is a foreign cartoon, either. The English
script requires the voice actors to occasionally cram an awful lot of words
into a single sentence, much like a Japanese cartoon. Also, as is often the
case with foreign cartoons redubbed in English, some of the dialogue is
trite, poorly translated or just plain lame. High points: a truly beautiful
execution of Arctic ocean waters and some very funny supporting characters
in the form of four bumbling lemmings who cannot seem to ever get where
theyre going. A prat-falling penguin, which I thought might be this
cartoon's answer to the shaky seagull in THE RESCUERS or Dom DeLuise's
buffoon-ish cat in A MOUSE TALE or even Robin Williams' hysterically goofy
bird in ONCE UPON A RAINFOREST (title?), was simply dreadful and unfunny in
his antics. He makes things worse by performing not one but two very bad
musical numbers. A subplot, involving the titular hero's inadvertent
transportation to a tropical island, completely throws off the movie's
momentum, and was absolutely unnecessary even if this subplot came from the
book upon which the film is based. Steer clear of this one unless you have a
4-year-old starving for something new to watch. It is, unfortunately, nearly
90 minutes in length, to boot.

This could be a cute movie for kids My grandson watched it once. he was
watching it a second time I was watching some of it with him.
When the little bear gets lost on the ice burg and he is in the water
he is trying to get to a piece of ice it says "Come back stupid ass
fool".
I don't want my 3 year old grandson watching movies with words like
this in it.
That is why its rated for children. Should be child friendly. That is
what I would expect. put out by warner brothers and G rated I would
expect this to not have cuss words in it. The words don't even fit the
movie in most places as it seems added later. And the movie drags out
in many parts.
