Disney based the design of Ariel from The Little Mermaid (1989) on Alyssa Milano's character Samantha Micelli from the series "Who's the Boss'. Jodi Benson is the voice of Lady in this movie and Alyssa Milano is the voice of Angel, Scamp's love interest in this film.
This is the second Disney film that Roger Bart and Susan Egan did voices for. Hercules (1997) was the first. Roger Bart provided the singing voice for Hercules and Susan Egan provided both speaking and singing voice for Megera. Although in Hercules (1997), Bart and Egan didn't sing together like they do in this film.
Scamp shares some similarities to Warner Brother's character Scrappy-Doo (Scooby-Doo's nephew). This is because both their outlines look a little similar to each other and their collars look exactly alike. This is also because Scrappy looks like a miniature version of his uncle and Scamp looks like a miniature version of his father. Only Scrappy has a smoother coat, walks on two legs, and is brown in color and Scamp has a more wiry coat, walks on all fours, and is grey in color.
Scott Wolf (Scamp) and Alyssa Milano (Angel) had both starred together as main characters in the film Double Dragon (1994), based on the popular Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) game of the same name
Chiffon, scamp's neighbor and original love interest from Scamp's original comics was probably the inspiration for Angel. This is because both have a similar appearance to each other, only Chiffon was a house dog and Angel is a stray.
The trivia items below may give away important plot points.
The ending of the movie has a similar twist to the ending of Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco (1996) in which the family decides to adopt Angel so Scamp wouldn't be upset, just like how the Seaver family decided to adopt Delilah so Chance wouldn't be upset.
In the first scenes when the Junkyard Band appears you can see that there's a brown dog named Scratchy that accompanies most of the time the band thus he never speaks but howls, however there's a moment in the movie when he dissappears without any reason.
The movie takes place seven months after the original film, this makes a continuity error. Scamp and his sisters should be adults at 6 months but they remain as puppies. Lady was 6 months when she turned into an adult in the original film.
