Maybe I don't get around much, but I've never seen a film quite like this before. It was original and hilarious.
I only have two complaints about this film, the ending is non-conclusive and there is no romance.
What we have is a sort of satire about monster movies.
A grouchy monster comes climbing up out of the sea near Iceland. He's in a bad mood, and he stays that way. He also has a very interesting, albeit foul-mouthed way of expressing his world-weariness with his life and human beings in general.
He needs to locate a certain weird scientist in order to solve his problems.
Enter the picture - a sweet and lovely young heroine, a reporter from a tabloid-style newspaper who is trying to find out just what happened to dear Jim, her fiancee and his camera crew from the same newspaper, who went up to Iceland about six months ago. Nobody's heard from them since, in fact, even the editor has kind of forgotten about them.
I really liked this film, and enjoyed how much the monster was featured in it.
Usually with monster movies, the monster doesn't speak, and all we get are just terrifying glimpses as the monster destroys someone or something else.
This is definitely a monster movie of a different sort.
