At age 91, just months before his death, Fred Zinnemann, director of the original The Day of the Jackal (1973), on which this film is based, fought with Universal to change the title of the film. He said the original had stood the test of time and did not want the remake to have the same title.

FIRST let me take a time out to salute the GREAT actor Bruce Willis. Oh my he is a versatile actor. He plays such a formidable assassin in this, you can't even imagine this is the same hero we all fell in love with in so many other movies. He plays a very convincing role. Whoever choose him did a very smart thing. Another excellent feature in this movie was the music and the intro to the movie, what a score it was. The intro is so exciting I ended up rewinding it several times just to see it over and over again! With these two qualities so high it is a wonder the film didn't turn out too good. Don't get me wrong, the first 30 minutes were bloody interesting and I was under the impression I was going to get a spectacular movie. But the film slowly looses its pace, it basically goes downhill and by the end I was severely disappointed. It's a wonder how such a high budget, well thought out film wasn't able to stick out. Oh well, it is worth a rental fee, but don't expect the package you can't help but expect from a movie with such a good cast and budget.
